Five undrafted LSU Tigers signed by NFL teams BATON ROUGE -- The NFL draft ended Saturday, but the signings kept going through Sunday and likely beyond for former LSU players. Five Tigers signed undrafted free-agent deals with teams, and others could soon do so. Tight end DeAngelo Peterson, perhaps the most surprising non-drafted LSU player, signed a deal with the St. Louis Rams, as did teammate and offensive lineman T-Bob Hebert. Those two will join another Tiger, Michael Brockers, who was the Rams' first-round pick Thursday night, the 14th player taken overall. Other LSU players to land with NFL teams were quarterback Jarrett Lee with the San Diego Chargers, fullback James Stampley with the Seattle Seahawks and offensive lineman Will Blackwell with the Carolina Panthers. LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson hasn't signed a deal, but he said he was invited to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' rookie camp, which begins Friday and lasts through the weekend. Tampa Bay hired former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano and a new staff after the season and is allowed to hold its rookie camp earlier than usual. Among Schiano's coaching staff is former LSU secondary coach Ron Cooper, who will coach defensive backs. "They want to bring me in and see what I can do," Jefferson said. "Because they are a new coaching staff they didn't get around to see enough of the prospects at the (NFL) Combine, so they are having the rookie camp early. I was definitely excited about getting that call Saturday night." Other LSU players who could possibly land free-agent deals include linebackers Karnell Hatcher, Stefoin Francois and Ryan Baker and defensive end Kendrick Adams. Four LSU players were drafted in the first two days, but only one was picked during the final four rounds Saturday. Ron Brooks was the last Tiger taken, by the Buffalo Bills in the fourth round. Morris Claiborne was the sixth overall pick by the Dallas Cowboys, Brockers went at No. 14 to St. Louis, Rueben Randle was selected with the last pick of the second round by the New York Giants and safety Brandon Taylor went 10 picks later to San Diego, No. 73 overall. http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2012/04/five_undrafted_lsu_tigers_sign.html
I hope Jefferson signs a deal. In the immortal words of LSUDad, "I wish him the best of luck." I really do wish both Lee and Jefferson the best, after all They both languished under Crowton while here at LSU. They both could have actually prospered under Kragthorpe had he been here four years ago.

I always love JJ quotes but as of right now it is simply not true. http://www.bucsnation.com/2012/4/30...e-agent-signings-buccaneers-add-14-not-jordan http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/04/30/buccaneers-announce-14-undrafted-rookie-deals/ "Jefferson was only invited to the Bucs’ rookie minicamp, perhaps as a “favor” tryout because some former LSU coaches are now on the Buccaneers’ staff."
Herei s a list... Stampley (SEA), Russian (Pitt), Shaw (DET), and Jefferson (TB) are all going to tryouts before camp. Not sure where the interview the WWL guy had came from but don't see the video. Also Ryan Baker is being reported as Signed with Tampa. http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=205420931 Will probably see more shakeups before the end of training camp as cuts are made and players are sent to other camps around the league.
Whose advice? http://tigerfan.com/threads/if-jlee...see-as-no-1-backup.100535/page-2#post-1185103 If I were Jefferson, I'd redshirt 2011 and come back in 2012 at tight end. He's not going to make it at quarterback in the NFL, but he's a big athletic guy that could put on about 30 pound and be a prototype NFL tight end. Les would play him (Peterson is a senior) and he could show that he has hands and can block. -- Red55

A little more on Al, I got back from Houston today. We had a draft party the first night. One of the coaches I know talked about who the Texans might draft. We had just about every draft book there, Al was the only one that had the Texans taking Mercilus in the first round. He also had the Packers taking Perry two picks later.
