His teammates know the rules and play by the same ones everybody does. Everybody understands that its a business and you do what you think is best for yourself and your family. Nobody will hold it against him. You do what you gotta do to get paid no matter if you're a seasoned vet or a raw rookie. What if you get injured your first game and can never play again? Already some guy, I don't remember who got an injury while participating in team OFAs before he signed a contract.
What happened to the rule that all rookie contracts are slotted into a specific price range based on when you were selected? Supposed to eliminate holdouts and rookies unfairly out-earning established veterans. What's there to negotiate for MM?
Rookie contracts are slotted into specific ranges but there are still some negotiable points that need to be hashed out between agents and teams. Mariota won't be a long holdout like JaMarcus Russell was but as the second player picked in the draft this is the only time in his career where he knows he has some leverage. If he turns out to be a superstar he will have plenty of leverage for his second contract but that's never a sure thing. If he turns out to be just average he will have no leverage later and will have to accept whatever he is offered. People root for their teams and call a player who tries to get some extras for himself a greedy SOB but if he was holding out for more money from General Motors or Exxon or Microsoft everybody would say more power to him.
lasalle simply heard it on the update which pissed him off because it was supposed to be metts team. lasalle rides or dies with these dudes.
Ride or die bitch!!! Already think the guy is gonna be a bust, now he is a holdout. Maybe he knows he's gonna be a bust too and this is a cash grab.
Mariota doesn't know he will be a bust. Any QB has confidence that he is going to make it.. Whether he does on not we will see.
Mariota has everything needed to be a NFL quarterback. He's very smart, very very fast, makes great decisions, and has extra good accuracy. He's big and strong with excellent character and is a good leader. Marcus Mariota seems like a special player to me. On the negative, he has little experience playing in tight games, though he was clutch scoring the last minute winning touchdown against Oregon State a couple of years ago. Mariota hangs in very well against the pass rush, maybe too well,.. at times he didn't feel the heat and got clobbered,.. could be fatal in the NFL. He didn't have great numbers when playing in the red zone, tended to be over cautious, but threw very few interceptions. His greatest obstacle in the NFL, and my biggest concern, is he's on a very poor team with bad coaching,.. he'd be a star in Philadelphia playing for Chip Kelly. The hangup is that Mariota is insisting that there be no offset language in his contract. From what I understand what that means is that if the Titans cut him next year and he signs with another team the Titans still have to pay him. No offset language in rookie contracts is unusual but there is no offsy language in Jameis Winston's contract with Tampa Bay and Mariota wants the same deal.
