Skip is far better than Joe Dean and he is better than Bob Broadhead. Is he perfect, No. But he's retiring in 2007 anyway. To bad Radakovich got hired away, he was being groomed to be Skip's replacement. I've always thought that professional sports directors were better than former coaches, who often bring too much baggage with them. When Skip was baseball coach, our track coach didn't get along with him. Skip won 5 national championships and got high praise and high pay, While Pat Henry won 27 national championships and got very little of either. When Skip became AD, Henry got even less respect and when Skip hired Pokie Chatman and instantly gave her more money than Pat Henry made, Henry walked . . . as Skip knew that he would. Good for Skip, good for Pokie, and bad for LSU.
The housing issue could be more damaging than the camp sale. I don't think the camp sale will amount to much.
I go back to the Jim Corbett days for LSU and of all the AD's we have had at LSU, Skip is one of, if not, the best. Dietzel and Broadhead we ok, Joe Dean was the Tom Benson of college football - a average to below average product and healthy balance sheet. As to Skip's hires, I do not know if any of you have ever hired someone for an important position, but it is just not that easy. I know I have never hired someone who I thought would fail. I doubt that Skip has either. We will miss Skip when he is gone. He has been a valuable asset to LSU.
