This talk of Orgeron reminds me of the Texas stories in the spring. Geoff Ketchum goes on an afternoon sports talk show in Austin and claims Saban is interested. An hour later, Ketchum goes on Twitter and tweets "ESPN is reporting interest from Saban." The radio show is an ESPN affiliate. In this case, here's a morning drive time sports talk show that has an interview with Orgeron. They ask questions, he answers. "Would you be interested in the LSU job?" That leads to the producer of the show tweeting: This leads to a thread on this forum, "Ed Orgeron expresses interest in the LSU DC job..." You've seen what that's led to...people weighing the pro's and con's of Coach O being in Baton Rouge. Yet, this is seemingly forgotten despite it being tweeted from the same producer, and despite it being pasted in the article from Saturday Down South. From where I'm sitting it seems like a couple of local fans, who happened to have a radio show, have started this conversation and SDS picks it up as Coach O wanting the job. I wouldn't call it a troll, though it has all the characteristics of one. You never know how these things work themselves out...but, again from my perspective, it seems like people are being caught up with answers that came from "baited questions."
well if he said yes he would be interested in the LSU job, doesnt that mean hes interested in the LSU job? doesnt really matter who set it up. or did he never say it? if not, good point because it sure was implied he did.
You're missing my point—very possibly because I didn't make it as clear as I should. Expressing interest when asked doesn't mean viable candidate. What would you expect him to say? No, I have no interest in working at LSU while on a radio show out of Baton Rouge? It has led to people discussing his viability which tends to lead to people criticizing administrations when candidates aren't interviewed. I very well may be wrong here. But this looks like it came from a meeting where the producer suggests calling O since the job is open, one of the hosts asking if he would be interested, and now some fans are buying into the idea as some salve for the wounds they feel they've personally suffered. Hence the reason I suggested it has all the makings of being "trollish."
if he said it he said it. how else is he supposed to express interest in a job. call a press conference? Ed Orgeron on @1045espn's #MorningDrive: "My family and I would love to be at #LSU, but there's been no contact yet." id say you're looking to discredit the station or more likely his/LSUs interest or both. looks to me theres beyond casual interest. and id say hes a viable candidate given his heritage along with 100 other connections. actually, id have a hard time coming up with a more viable candidate.
sorry....I just skipped to the last page. The "sources" of the OKC news story was probably agents too. I didn't realize Pendergast lived in Dallas.
I said it here on Tigerfan first but that was just in the hope he would at least come under serious consideration for the job.
After Coach O said he wasn't personally contacted he hinted that his agent has been contacted by LSU. I have heard that was the case. Coach O was a frequent guest on that show throughout the year.
In the same manner every other assistant coach has done in the past; let his agent be his agent. Considering the venue if you choose to characterize my thoughts as an attempt to discredit the radio station, so be it. Considering the modus operandi of sports radio shows and the track record the entire industry has demonstrated, repeatedly, over the last few years being skeptical of their intent is justified in my opinion. I understand where you would think his heritage and other connections would come into play. In the end, we know whose decision it is to make him a viable candidate. Like I alluded to earlier considering where the story started, and then how it has progressed, it certainly seems logical to question whether it's something fans should get caught up in. Consider this. How different is it than 102.5 out of Nashville talking about Gruden's wife and her links to Knoxville, then mentioning his brief stint as a GA for the Vols, which in turn launched the Gruden to UT stories? If anything I'm suggesting caution, at least guarded pessimism.
