The more I think about this hire, Brick Haley is getting this job. Miles has ultimate security because of the ridiculous buyout at least until 2019. He knows LSU does not have the resources to buyout his contract and pay him not to coach this team. Not that Brick is not capable of doing a good job, but he poses less risk to Miles than hiring someone he is not familiar. Prior to 2007 Miles knew he had to still prove himself, now he has HAND. I have now resigned myself to Brick as DC and that will be a sure sign that Miles is here at least until 2019.
nah its not that bad. we may end up with the brickster but its because les thinks hes the best guy. and if coach o follows, recruiting takes an uptick. but yeah, still underwhelming although likely a decent hire. im still gonna pile on alleva and pretend its a fail either way.
Yeah, my question too. Look for Miles to make the easy hire, and it will probably be one of his friends. Which I think means Brick Haley will get promoted up and maybe Yaw Yaw hired as DL coach. I like winners and this Bill Clark is apparently a winner. Check it out. His High School record at Prattville (Al.) HS was 106-11. First College job was DC at South Alabama. I can't find any information on his performance there but his next move was Head Coach at Jacksonville State so he must have done something right. There he took a 6-6 prior year team to a 11-4 record. After only one year he moved to UAB for one year where he took a 2-10 prior year team that was on it's way out of college football to a 6-6 record. I wonder why he only stayed a Jacksonville State for one year. Does anyone know. Clark's record minus a question or two is pretty impressive. He is the hard hire though and not one of Miles friends ( I don't think) so I'm expecting Brick Haley to be the next DC.
@dudley I'm familiar with Clark, and his record. Being brought into a coaching clinic? I could have easily forgotten, but certainly don't remember him being brought in and I've followed (and compared to other SEC schools) who has been speaking in clinics for several years now.
In 2008, or 2009 Clark held one of the smaller meetings on the first night of one of the coaching clinics at UA. It was right before he took the job at Jax State...
Maybe Miles is waiting for BO to give him the answer? A seance must not be scheduled until later in the week. I think Miles picked up his offensive playbook from Bo's estate sale.
J State is an FCS team (D1AA) and UAB was an FBS (D1A) team. I'm sure the pay must have been quite a bit higher at UAB.
I was thinking about this today and the answer for our dc is right in front of our faces. hes well respected and trusted by les miles and also a defensive mastermind already familiar with LSU's schemes. hes very bright (allegedly) and if hired, no one will ever be out of position. and he can be had at a discount. dj welter, come on down brother. you were running this shit the last 2 years anyhow.
