I agree totally with Boston's view, no need to repeat it. I will add that I like JR's play and he is improving. I'd like to see him disguise the ball more and guard it more under pressure but honestly I can't complian about JR, he is improving and will be fine. I think we could run off tackle more, I saw some good stuff there and if Our #1 Rb was well it's be awesome. :hihi:

The defense is what needs work.

That's good stuff. I agree pretty much totally.

Taking the fact that we had no warm up game, the fact that our players have probably been pretty unable to focus on football for a couple of weeks, and that we had to play an away game against a very good team, I think the following:

Offense I thought was great (considering above). Russell looked awesome. The only real mistake he made was that fumble early. Other than that he protected the ball well, made good decisions and made good throws. He definitely has potential to be amazing this year.

The receivers made some great catches. Granted they dropped some that should've been caught, but it was the first game. Early dropped 3 that would've been 1st downs, but I think he redeemed himself with the TD catch. And Bennie, GO BENNIE!!! I was so happy for that dude. Too bad he wasn't able to get the TD before going down.

I was greatly impressed with the running game. Not that I thought it would suck, but it was really impressive even without Broussard. Addai looked great. Vincent looked really good, and Carey looked awesome. Man, I don't know if I just didn't remember how good he was, or if he's just that much improved over a couple of years ago, but he has some incredible moves. I'm looking forward to seeing what those 3 can do this year.

The D was suspect. Our D line didn't seem to get nearly enough pressure on the QB, and our secondary was very swiss-cheese like. I'm not ready to totally rag our boys yet, b/c even great players like Webster and Daniels had bad games, but it does worry me a little. Another thing to realize is that their QB and receivers were pretty amazing tonight. That QB was nearly perfect with his reads and throws. And those receivers caught many balls that they really shouldn't have caught. I don't see any other QB's we face this year looking that good except maybe Leak, and even he usually doesn't look like that. There DEFINITELY needs to be some adjustment on D, but given the circumstances of the game and the way that team played, I've got to wait to see what happens before I pass too much judgement.

I was thoroughly impressed with the special teams though. Those cats were freakin AWESOME!!! Yes there was a little luck involved, but the concentration and focus of those guys was amazing.

Obviously the team will improve, but basically I think as long as the defensive backs make some adjustments, it looks like we're going to have a very good team this year.

Now I'm going to freaking bed. Got an early day tomorrow.

    overall impressions:

lsu looked like a very talented team that hasnt played a game in a long time and is facing a good team that is ready. something obviously needs to be done with the defense, but it might not matter if the offense shows the potential it appears it has. jamarcus looks awesome. he doesnt get happy feet and make dumb decisions. he stands and throws and looks like he has a good idea of what he is doing. i am very impressed with him.

the dropped passes have to be a result of nerves and rust.

i expect the defensive problems to be fixed to the extent that the superpowered offense (and especially the bruising, clock draining running attack) will carry lsu far.

except for a few plays, it looked as if the dbs were where "they were suppose to be" so I have to put the blame on ole Pelini

If you call no where in the tv picture where they are supposed to be I guess you are right. However I was under the impression that when I see a reciever running down field I should also see a DB in a wide angle tv shot.

I think he meant that they were where Pelini coached and taught them to be. Therefore, they were "where they were supposed to be" and Pelini is to blame...

I was thoroughly impressed with our running game. Man that one play where Shyrone drug two defenders a few yards had me jumping up and down. He looks real hungry in his senior year.
I think we can all agree that the secondary and the dropped pases were a problem.
