Exactly. How quickly we forget how well Peterson and Mathieu did right off the bat. Sometimes Freshmen are just too good to keep off the field.
I would love to take it that way, but after watching Mills look absolutely lost getting beat deep for a 40+ yard TD(against UAB and amongst other plays), I have a bit of trouble taking it as the freshmen taking over the veterans' spots rather than the veterans losing their spots to freshman. I'm not saying the sky is falling, but I'm a long way from pegging us #2. I think 8 or 9 is more apt.
Point is that right now there's nobody who is head and shoulders above everyone else in the Top 10. Maybe Oregon, but they need to show me that their gazelles can handle a physical, smash-mouth defense before I become a believer.
(Emphasis added) That's very true, and I did forget about that. I remembered giving up a lot of yards down the stretch to Boykin because we couldn't contain him, but forgot the Blue fumble.
I can definitely agree with that. It's very muddled. I took the first couple posts as the fact that we are clear-cut #2 after the first two games, which I disagreed with. I could merely have been misinterpreting.
I'm not going to sit here and blow smoke up yours or anyone elses ass, #2 maybe, maybe not... but I am pretty certain we're definately a Top 5 program and will only get better as this team and each unit gels together more. You have to remember there's a lot of new faces and it takes time before everyone starts to get on the same page. We're getting there.
I can agree with this. If the D steps into the play we've grown accustomed to in the past 3-4 years under Chavis, then I peg us in the top 5.
If we field last year's defense with this year's offense, we're hands-down the number one team...not just top five.
To be honest the 2 we miss the most on D are Minter and Simon. Reid Mingo and Montgomery all under performed last year. Maybe it's good they moved on although can you imagine the D line rotation had they not? Just the weapons at DE, damn.
