We weren’t upgrading keeping Les. A lot of schools struggle with finding their next guy, it’s part of the risk in making a change. Still worth the risk.
Wasn't that good bunch of 7-5 6-6 and one 8-4 year. Ed O showed last year he could coach. Had the team with a chance in every game. He could very well have been undefeated in interim stint if guice hits right hole in UF game on last play, and refs don't blow two calls vs bama. What more could he have done to earn the job last year?
I don't know that we didn't get the best. I don't like Alleva either and I don't like his tactics, but that has no bearing on whether a man wins games or not.
Saban was not a success as a head coach at other places #1 Gerry Dinardo had just trounced the man in the Indepedence Bowl right before we hired the guy. His best seson at MSU was 8-4. He inherited one of the best LSU rosters he ever coached at LSU, look up the 2000 LSU roster. Dean wasn't a good either. F King isn't our coach. Ed Orgeron will recruit his ass off, he is locking borders down now.
He also had a 9 win season at Toledo. He was a winning coach before he was hired at LSU. He never had a losing season. How about Orgeron? What's he done before this season? Refresh my memory please. And no Saban didn't inherit one of the best rosters ever. Les Miles did though. And by the way, Dinardo beat Saban in Saban's first year as MSU coach. It's not like Dinardo won the Indy bowl than was fired and LSU hired Saban, it was like 4 seasons later.
But but your not playing into we hate O rhetoric that some have here. I was not a huge fan of the hiring process that we had (more so of us getting baited by herman and jimbo to get more money) but I feel like we got the best option out there at the time. Orgeron is doing almost everything you can ask of the guy and has this team looking good thus far. Some will still bash him even if/when we beat the gumps.
Actually, he made some tweaks to the offense that we were wanting from Miles and went 6-2. He didn't really install his head coaching philosophy until this year and we saw what a disaster that was with Troy. He's the coach and I will give him a chance, but I wont forget where he came from, what he's done or how he was hired. I am taking it one game at a time
One 9 win season at Toledo and he's proven? and Ed Goes what 7-2 last year in interim. He goes 6-2 in interim at USC? He could easily been 9-0 as interim last year as explained earlier. But you must be right 9 wins as Toledo head man means more.
Look at the roster Saban inherited from 2000 LSU team. It was maybe best HE had, not WE had. Lot of NFL players on it.
