Saban got plenty of criticism following the loss to UAB. These coaches make so much damn money, no one should feel bad that they’re scrutinized by the fans. O looked like shit to start the season but has us playing up right now. I’m on board for the upset next week. I’m content with our coaching staff right now and will be on fire if we pull the upset.
I picked Bama 17-10 but LSU definitely has a chance. 4th quarter depth issues for us could be the difference...well, that and the refs.
I don't know, I guess I just stop reading when I see comparisons to Nick Saban. When Saban was hired he had a good track record at Michigan St. Good, not great, but considering the school that he coached was not the maize and blue and he wasn't a basketball coach, he did quite well at Michigan St. He came here with a tremendous amount of potential and LSU had a tremendous amount of potential and they both realized it together. There is absolutely nothing in Ed Orgeron's background that suggests he is or will ever be Nick Saban. There's actually not a lot to suggest that he'll even be Les Miles. He is getting his chance now. We will see over time. I know this, if we fired a guy who seemed to win 9 games in his sleep for a guy who can't win the SEC West, then it was a bad hire. I thought Les had run his course, but if you aren't upgrading, you are getting worse.
Like most of your posts, very reasonable and sound points. I agree with you, personally, but I am willing to be patient and give Oeaux a chance. A lot has happened since his OM tenure. If all goes to shit, the team fails, coaches leave, recruiting crumbles, then we’ll have our answer and need to move on. At this point, though, no sense in continuing to cry over spilt milk (see 97% of posts by Taint). Oeaux has us going in the right direction. If we were to pull off the Bama upset, that would be 4 consecutive wins against SEC teams, 2 of which were top 10, and 3 ranked, and 3 on the road. Give the man a chance. Oh, and by the way, it’s fun to watch LSU football again!
@six pack dan the problem is not necessarily with Eaux, it’s more with the process by which we got him. Saban & Les both had their critics when they dropped games they shouldn’t have and both grew into good coaches. Eaux may do the same, but he was sold to us by waterhead Joe who “claimed” he did an exhaustive “search” and we ended up with his puppet. With the stories and facts coming out now we all can see Joe had this planned ever since Jindal & Fking slapped his hand at the end of 15. Joe is a slimy little douchebag who deserves the bulk of our wrath for dealing so treacherously with the LSU faithful. Eaux will get caught in the crossfire when he puts a bad product on the field especially by those of us who have been down this road before. A good analogy would be the presentation of a good steak. It doesn’t matter how good the steak is, if someone gives it to you on a garbage can lid, instead of a nice plate it will not be appealing. Eaux, who may grow into a steak, was given to us on a garbage can lid. LSU deserved better!!!
In case you were wondering about Orgeron's kicker comments, Culp says it was great personal motivation. http://www.nola.com/lsu/index.ssf/2...nor_culp_1.html#incart_river_mobileshort_home
1. Saban was successful at other places 2. Expectations were pretty fucking low 3. Saban's recruiting method never involved hope and pray. 4. Joe Alleva didn't hire him 5. F King wasn't the chancellor. I hope Coach O wins every game he coaches. But let's not compare him to Saban just yet ok?
