Clearly. But we will never reduce the huge national debt without posting surpluses and that is going to take some revenue increases as well as spending cuts. The best way to attack a debt is from both ends. You and I do it this way and so can the nation. To say we can't is political theatre. We are paying the lowest taxes since WWII!!!!

Easily done on both counts. And this may be one scared cow that gets barbequed soon.

Dude, the Bush tax cuts cost us $1.8 Trillion in income. That will do a great deal more than squat.

I think all parties are willing to address the entitlements, but it can't be to just slash them across the board. I think we'll see things like raising the age when one can collect. When SS was implemented, the median life expectancy was 67. Now it is over 75. A couple of years of help to elderly people on fixed incomes has become at least a decade and often two.

Another thing that makes sense is to reduce or eliminate benefits to those who are wealthy enough that SS makes little difference to them. It ain't the great depression anymore. Not all Americans become poor at age 65. Many of us have sufficient retirement income and net worth to get by fine without Social Security at age 65. And if we fall on hard times later on we could still draw benefits at 75 or 85.

So are the democrats! They were also elected to do what they do. You seem to forget this.

And you are no different!. You attack Obama at every turn and STILL defend Bush at every turn. You want governing to begin and you support the obstructionist party.

    Who can beat him?

2012 is going to be a hard year for the GOP if you imagine that.

    RealClearPolitics - Latest Election Polls

This shows that all the polls (except the right-wing Rasmussen Reports) predict an Obama victory. Just look at the FOXnews poll alone, I assume you would say that they are not biased towards Obama.

    FOXnews

Obama versus Romney = Obama +6

Obama versus Bachmann = Obama +11

Obama versus Pawlenty = Obama +10

Obama versus Perry = Obama +10

Obama versus Paul = Obama +4

Obama is toast because he has abandoned his base.

His base is the Clinton progressives, not the Kennedy liberals. Obama knows that he must favor the independent moderates and he also know that the liberal extremes are not going to be voting for the republicans.

Once the in-fighting is over in the GOP primaries where the candidate must lean to the right to get nominated . . . the republicans will do the same thing and start catering to the independent moderates who are the only true swing vote.

Clinton progressives fold like lawn chairs every time the GOP cries?

    The Quote of the Decade

“The fact that we are here today to debate raising America ‘s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government can not pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America ‘s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, “the buck stops here.’ Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.”

    – Senator Barack H. Obama, March 2006
