Ice down a burn immediately, that was smart. It prevents a lot of damage and feels pretty good, too.

    Great advice Red.

Back in the early 80's when I was working at Del Lago's, I was cooking Cherries Jubilee table side. For any of you unfamiliar, just think of it as molten sugar. Just as I was starting to serve it, the pan got knocked over and this molten lava went all over about 80% of my hand. This stuff is very syrupy and not easy to get off. I immediately yanked the wine from the winebucket at the next table and plunged my hand into it. I kept my hand submerged in ice-water for most of the rest of the night and once home, applied vitamin E oil for the next week or so. Everything healed up fine and there was absolutely no scarring. I do believe that if the ice bucket had not been right there, that the burn would have been pretty severe.
