I also disagree. UF was known for great defense under Spurrier. It is a common misconception that UF was just about the O. They sported quite a dominate D as well. They didn't beat people 52-45. They beat them 52-3. Plus the question was about which you would have preferred to hire at the time of the hire. At the time of the hire, we had no idea what kind of coordinators that Miles would bring in. Some here were very worried as Miles took his time to find Pellini. And to compare them as recruiters is a tough question. When Spawn O' Satan had the might of UF behind him he recruited very very well. Put Miles in USC and I would say that he would not recruit as well as SOS. So, I am not so sure I would say that Miles is a better recruiter than SOS.

lets see a proven winner in the sec vs. a second rate coach from another conference. you got to be kidding aint a tiger fan around that would choose less over spurrier.
It is also a misconception that everytime Spurrier took the field another team was getting their butt kicked by 50 points. Spurrier to this day, still does not want to talk about defense in press conferences. He won his first SEC title in 1991. He got to 50 points one time...against San Jose State, won 35-26 over Kentucky, & beat LSU 16-0. Lost 28-39 to Notre Dame in the Sugar. People apparently have forgotten some of this, but remember his 58-3 win over LSU in '93. Like Miami will remember 40-3, I suppose. Miles IMO, is a better coach at this time, maybe not in the 1990's but now. Very few coaches come into the SEC conference and win their division in the first year. Spurrier is a notoriously bad recruiter. The players' Mama's just don't like him. At UF he has a tremendous booster following & good recruiters that helped him a lot. In 2006 at South Carolina, truth is he finished 8th in the SEC recruiting, 8...spots behind even Ole Miss. Les Miles & Pete Carroll went head to head seriously for 1 player this year, Keiland Williams. That should answer your Miles vs. Spurrier recruiting question.
No. I think LSU is much better off with Miles because he is a longterm answer for LSU Spurrier is a 5 year (at most, imo) fix at USC. LSU will win more with Miles in 10 years than USC will with Spurrier and then whoever in the next 10 years.
Oh, Spurrier isn't a legend in the SEC, or he shouldn't be... Florida was a powerhouse before he got there, and Spurrier was winning with Holtz's talent last season. Comparing Miles' and Spurrier's recruiting last season doesn't seem to make alot of sense.
I didn't. I compared this year's (2006) recruiting class to Spurrier's (2006). Technically Miles & Spurrier have both signed 2 classes, this is where they are right now. (Miles finished ahead in both 2005 & 2006)
Same thing in my head. Miles has a clear advantage over Spurrier at this point... with respect to having a more cushy job.
Florida has never even won a SEC Title before Spurrier got to UF Yes, they did win one several years before but had it stripped away due to probation
