Bama favored by 24....LSU was about the same favorite over Troy. We thought we were gonna win by showing up. Here's to hoping Bama thinks the same way deep down inside.
I still put them top 5 even with the loss. We play anybody else and we win that game. ESPN knew it which is why they pushed so hard to get Bama in. It is beyond stupid to be crowned NC when your not even conference champs, even Nick himself said so before he was in the position to beg his way in. It’s hard to beat a team twice in the same year especially when so evenly matched. If every game counts they should not have gotten a do over. Even with the poor performance we had a phenomenal year!
This more than anything pissed me off about the way it all ended that year. We were the best team all year long and then this whiny bitch of a man cries and begs his way into the NC for a rematch. This should have never happened, and miles proceeds try to attack The Maginot Line head on instead of going around via the forward pass. Then we end up with a team that might be the best team we have had just to have it end in 13-1. Simply maddening. I am pretty sure this is when for me (and others I'm sure) miles was done and the spiral went into full effect. Actually this might have been when taint fully lost his/her mind
2011 was an incredible year, even with the loss and limitations at qb. So sad it ended that way. If we were to have the playoff Bama might have still made it in. I do think with *my* criteria they’d be left out of a 4 team playoff. Probably the best scenario for college football is an 8 team playoff, where Bama likely would have been allowed in as an at large. Given there were only two teams and the bullshit way teams were selected, I don’t think we can be too upset that Bama was #2. If they only had one loss to possibly the best team in college football history, and that loss was close as it was, gotta say that Bama team was pretty damn good.
Cant agrue with those stats. Lets just say while Saban was there QB play got better then when Miles took over things got worse again. Would you agree with that?
It should have been Okie State, they had a legit reason for the game they dropped on the road after a devastating blow to their program. Bama lost at home as a healthy 100% functional team. Nick has more clout than Gundy so he got in. Not that we would have beaten OSU but they should have had a shot, and it would have made a great story with the history of Miles & Gundy! That’s why the way college football crowns a champ is crap. Baseball & basketball do it the best way by playing for it, not having your favorite sport writer vote you in. I like the 8 game system because at least you get all the conference champs in. To me an SEC title is more significant than a NC because you earn it!!!
We are still whining about the 2011 season? Here's the deal. If you are the best team, you curb stomp Alabama in front of basically a home crowd in the Superdome. End of story. Rematches happen in every other sport. It wasn't even close. It was worse than the final score even showed. And if the players thought it wasn't "fair" that they had to play Bama again, that's 100% on the coaches. You have to play the game in front of you. Bama didn't deserve to be in the game?? Prove it. Kick their ass in front of the entire world. When the playoff gets expanded, there will be more rematches. It's the nature of a playoff system. It can and will happen. Heck, it could happen now.
Not the point even though you are 100% correct in your statement. If you draw the same team twice then so be it, beat them on the field. At the time everyone, especially the ESPN talking heads, were complaining about a non conference champ playing for the title until it was Nick then the opinions changed. Just using 11 as an example of a true playoff needed not a ranking system. Same thing happen to USC when we played Oklahoma, we should have played USC but people’s opinions rigged the system. Play it on the field and screw the too many games, get rid of some of the rent a wins if you want to keep it under 14 games.
