The Cotton Bowl I live in Houston and one of the local stations said that the Texas Motor Speedway (or whatever its name is) near Fort Worth is trying to get the Texas-OU game moved there. They said that they could set up temporary stands by the endzones and that it could hold more people than the Cotton Bowl. Granted, the Cotton Bowl sucks but if that were to happen, can you imagine all the redneck jokes that will come from it. I can't really reply to the original message because Tiger Stadium is the only college stadium I've been to. After experiencing that, I have a feeling no other stadium will be able to compare. Last year I went to a Texans game and while it was nice, it just wasn't Saturday night in Death Valley. :geaux:
The Cotton Bowl is easily the worst stadium I've ever been in. It reminded me of the Revolutionary War era things that were built for smaller people than we have today. I'm 6'2" and could not sit down without my knees going over the back of the seat in front of me (wasn't a problem, though, because we didn't sit down, lol).
Hey Pastimer My brother went to and graduated from VMI(but he is a diehard LSU fan) and played Lacrosse there. That is a great place to go if you have the right mindset.
LSU667, you are right about the VMI mindset. Had I gone there I would have been out the first time someone screamed "Drop and give me 20!" If you can hack it, though, you got it made once you graduate. Legion Field in B'ham was kind of a dog of a stadium, and situated in the middle of the projects. Commonwealth Stadium at UK is physically a nice stadium, but the only atmosphere it has is jumbo-tron manufactured foolishness - not to mention the fireworks that are shot off when the opposing team wins on the last play.
I gotta agree with the Georgia boy...Vandy's stadium blows. After that, I'd have to say the LA Colisseum sucks as a place to watch football. It's way too big and that track around the field pushes the fans too far back. Is it any wonder that USC only drew an average of 66,000 fans to games last year in a stadium that seats over 100k? And that was a significant increase from the year before.
Don't they put covers over some of the seats in the endzones at the LA Colisseum? Doesnt UCLA play at the Rose Bowl and they do they same thing?
I think you're right...but at least the Rose Bowl is pretty and it's in Pasadena. More stadiums that are ugly as hell...Michigan State and Wisconsin. I'm sorry, but if the Green Bay Packers can grow natural grass, these two schools can do it too. That butt-ugly astroturf they have makes their games the ugliest to have to watch on TV.
USC in LA is bad..First of all it is in Compton lock your car. Then the set up is poor. Raider fans go to the Trojan games and cheer for the raiders. Here is one for you San Diego State they get 15-20k on a good night not very exciting football lately. UCLA is in the Rose Bowl not to bad large venue, the BAMA UCLA game a couple of years ago BAMA had tons of people it was fun. Sun Devil Stadium is ok, no tailgating, not many fans unless they are winning and then it is still not a sell out. Arizona Stadium is weak, just wait till LSU visits the visitor section is lame bad seats. Northern Arizona plays football inside, I think LSU practice is bigger.
