Van Chancellor? That's a new name to me. He's 63 and just retired from the Comets. If we got him, it would be short lived.

the thinking is this: the program is in chaos with this pokey thing and 9 seniors. So they want a guy who has "seen it all" to come in and settle things down for 3-4 years before turning it over to the next long-term coach.

I, personally, don't think it's a bad idea at all.

He does have a great record. Sounds good to me.

There is going to be a scramble for coaches as soon as March Madness ends.

No, no, no. I just see this as a big mistake. I don't think that Van Chancellor will draw in recruits -- because kids will see him as temporary (much like Bill Guthridge was at UNC after Dean retired). Plus, it's been 10 years since he coached in college -- do high-school kids even know who he is?

I think we need to make a splash -- young, big name coach. Pay them well and give the program stability for 10 years, not just 3-4. There's a good group of these coaches out there. But, if we're only gonna pay $400k, we're not going to get one. There are rumors of Texas willing to pay Duke's coach in the upper 6 figures, and I believe Mulkey makes $800k at Baylor.

We don't appear to be in caos with another trip to the final four. I would look for the best young coach and do my best to bring that person to BR. Van Chancelor would not be my choice. He does however, fit the mold of Skip hires.

we're not in chaos on the court, but next year we HAVE to recruit well, because we're losing 9...

With the stuff surrounding the program, how do you convince 7-8 girls to come to BR?

I think Van can do that... He is very personable and has 4 rings in his arsenal.

A well-known young coach would also be able to recruit.

At least from over here on the east coast, it doesn't seem that the program itself is tainted. It was something that Pokey allegedly did and she's gone, so now the program can move on. Since things have moved rather swiftly and LSU isn't investigating anymore, maybe we've heard the last of allegations coming out. Hopefully, the talk this summer will be on the splashy hire and the national championship we just won. *crosses fingers*

The little I hear (Or what I'm not hearing), I don't think the program is tainted either. Homosexuality exists even in the military.....the fact that it was allegedly a coach and former player is definitely a different level but the coach allegedly involved is gone and not like she'll be the one recruiting, coaching, etc.

I believe getting the right person (Credibility) will be the determining factor. I know it's not nearly as popular but, overall, our girls' program is a top notch program. :thumb:
