Yes sir, thank you sir. The answer to every problem is not MORE legislation. This issue can be handled privately between the interested parties.

i dont see why any of you care.

    big deal.

its not like she sang "down with whitey"

you shouldve been more offended by roseanne's version and the lady (diana ross?) that forgot the lyrics.

You miss the point. It's not a racial issue. It's a patriotism issue. She could have sung "Cum Stains on my Pillow Where You Used to Lay Your Head" and the reaction would have been the same.

The only song you can possibly substitute for the National Anthem without being unpatriotic is "America the Beautiful", which should have been the national Anthem anyway.

No, it's not. "America" is a re-lyriced version of the British National Anthem. I despise it. I mean, who uses phrases like "tis of thee"?

"The Star Spangled Banner" is a re-lyriced version of an old English drinking song called "To Anacreon in Heaven". It's pompous and difficult to sing with a range that the average person can't manage.

"America the Beautiful", on the other hand, is All-American, has beautiful lyrics, a beautiful melody, and it is singable. Purple mountains majesty . . . amber waves of grain.

As a teenager, I toured Europe playing in the All-America band, mostly to European audiences. But some of our gigs were on US military bases to Americans living overseas. We opened each concert with "The Star Spangled Banner" and everybody stood and smiled. But we closed with "America the Beautiful" . . . and there was a lump in every throat and not a dry eye in the place.
