I would much rather hear Ron Franklin tha that spare we know at Brent Mush-mouth. :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige :geauxtige
From SI mailbag: After watching LSU win against Arkansas and seeing Notre Dame get dismantled by USC, I was shocked to hear ABC's announcers say that Notre Dame had done enough to earn a rematch against Michigan in the Rose Bowl. What are the conditions under which ND would get an at-large bid over LSU? Is it even a close call? --Jerel, Tucson, Ariz. As baffling as it may seem, I've been told Notre Dame remains at the top of the Rose Bowl's wish list, even after last Saturday's dismantling. The Irish haven't played there since 1925, and the folks in Pasadena don't know when they'll get another chance. My guess, however, is that saner heads will prevail by Sunday. If USC beats UCLA and Arkansas beats Florida, the Rose will have chance to match No. 3 Michigan vs. No. 4 or 5 LSU. It would be extremely unwise for the Rose Bowl to pass on that opportunity, and here's why: It's no secret that the large majority of college football fans no longer embraces the bowl system. They want a playoff. The BCS and the bowls themselves have spent considerable time and resources over the years defending their system against hordes of critics. If the Rose Bowl, the oldest and most revered of the bowl games, deprives the public of a potential No. 3 vs. No. 4 matchup in favor of a regular-season rematch that I'm not even sure the participants themselves want to see played, the bowl system will lose whatever credibility it had left with the public. Bowl people will no longer be able to argue with a straight face that they're serving the greater good of college football. No pressure, Rose Bowl.
Some great news! I guess Im one of the few people who like the commentary worl of Mustberger? I didnt like his ND butt kissing the other night, but other than that Ive liked Mustberger.
He'd better take off those irish glasses he's wearing!! :angryfire Quite the contrary....they've done nothing except ensure that BQ doesn't get the Heisman. :hihi:
Speaking of Ron Franklin... who did he tick off??? This guy has the greatest voice in college football and he spent all year on ESPN2 calling games that shouldn't have been televised. I really missed him and Gottfried on Saturday nights this year. One more reason to hate ESPN.
Whoa, we had two games televised on The Duece this year, Arizona & Fresno St. :dis: I agree on Franklin. He's among the best. ESPN had to find a spot for Mike Patrick and they paired him with Todd Blackledge to do the ESPN games. Franklin was moved to The Duece and paired with that ex USC QB whose name always escapes me. That and his monotone voice put me to sleep. Franklin deserves better.
I am not doubting any news breaks or anything like that, BUT if they wanted to invite LSU then just go ahead and do it and let us accept it. This whole part about "waiting until Sunday" gives the Rose Bowl and BCS just enough room for them to crawfish out.
ed cunningham but didnt know he played qb for USC. yes, its a disgrace the best voice in football has been relegated to second-tier games while bob davie gets the main gig and is beyond terrible, not to mention his voice sucks as bad as his so-called analysis. another excellent move by espn. I always wondered if mike gottfried had a stroke a few years ago because he can barely finish his sentence between a touchdown, the 10 minutes of commercials and the ensuing kickoff. Me and my friends have called him stroke victim for quite some time. He and franklin were good together before he started sounding drunk each broadcast. I guess thats why they broke up the pairing. then i heard he was in the hospital recently but not sure why. never found out if he had a stroke long ago either. that pam ward chick is pretty terrible and not helping women's efforts to do football games. Of course its very likely women shouldnt broadcast football games ever minus an occasional hot sideline reporter like erin andrews. speaking of, where the hell is jill arrington? she went to espn after leaving cbs a couple years ago never to be seen again. theisman probably has her in a cage somewhere in bristol is all i can figure.
LSU Tigers Rose Bowl bound, TV station reports 06:21 PM CST on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 WWLTV.com The LSU Tigers are Rose-Bowl bound, that's according to a report from a Baton Rouge television station. Citing an anonymous member of the Rose Bowl board, the station said that the Tigers will indeed be the first SEC team to play in the granddaddy of all bowl games since Alabama last did in 1946. http://www.wwltv.com/sports/lsu/stories/wwl112906jblsu.397db3cc.html
Oops, brain fart on my part. Just looked at Cunningham's bio and see that he was an offensive lineman with the Washington Huskies. http://espn.go.com/abcsports/bcs/columns/cunningham_ed/bio.html I don't know that I've ever read any public confirmation, but it's obvious that Gottfried suffered a stroke. A shame, because he & Franklin were the best. Good question on Arrington. Now that you mention it, I haven't seen her on ESPN. And she's certainly one you wouldn't forget seeing.
