Actually, TE you are even more wrong than I initially thought. I just saw the replay on Cox. It was 3rd and 5 with under 7 minutes to go. Russell was in the shotgun. Without a doubt it was a designed pass play. There was no checking out of a run play. Davis was wide open and Russell bounced it to him. Saban was pissed about the physical lack of execution by Russell.

 

Post game video confirms Saban was upset because Russell hits that pass easily in practice. Saban says Russell can throw that pass turned around backwards and not looking and make it in practice.

 

Actually TE called the play into Jimbo Fisher who then relayed the call to Russell. So he KNOWS it was a run play that got checked into a pass play :hihi:
