just for clarification, he has averaged 200 tackles over the past 2 seasons, 400 total. that's gaudy numbers.
Its always great to get a new recruit, however, if there are concerns about his speed playing linebacker, whats the upside. His football instincts?
word is he is very quick and has great instincts (ala Ali Highsmith) and a tremendous motor, but will not run down a RB (but what MLB do you expect to do that anyway?) 40 yard time for a MLB is nearly worthless
I understand that but in coverage? I didnt think Highsmith was the MLB, Im I wrong on that? If you have to run with a slot guy, then what.
LSU doesn't typically play their MLB during passing downs. So that is not much of an issue. I just compared to Highsmith in terms of being quick, but not fast (40 yd speed). Highsmith was a really slow OLB by all accounts, a real testament to all the other qualities he had (instinct, first and foremost, smarts, shedding blockers, tenacity, etc).
I understand your point now. Since the guy is a MLB, he wouldnt be in coverage, but playaction is a bytch.
I don't think anybody has ever raved about Beckwith's coverage ability. But he is one helluva run stopper.
212 tackles as a sophomore (not supposed to even star as a sophomore, much less make that many tackles) 183 tackles as a junior (28 for losses, almost 3 a game, good grief)
scout.com already listing him as an LSU Tiger ho hum...... NEXT! It's now official. Welcome aboard young man. You got a bright future ahead of you here at LSU!
