right, well my belief that there is no god is a guess. i could be wrong. what i really believe is that i do not know, and see no reason to know, except that i do know that people are making lots of stuff up. i suppose people could define that as agnosticism, thats fine. mainly i think all people who claim to know anything are liars or delusional or brainwashed.

I think red has a great point.

Would you have been ok with it if there was a verse from the Koran on his robe. I mean as long as it didn't say 'hang the mother f**ker' in arabic on it?

Well, martin, I don't even understand what he said, so you're one step ahead of me.

If i'm walking down the street and you walk by me smoking a cigarette doesn't that violate my right not to smell smoke and get cancer?
    Same thing for indoors?
    Curious?

I made the assumption you were attempting to bait someone into a big debate on the removal of the Ten Commandments from our courts. I see no need in a discussion on the topic, because the high courts have ruled. Although I am a Christian, I don't see how not having them displayed affects my relationship to God or my accountability to the laws of the land in any way, shape, or form. Conversely, I don't see how having them displayed would really impact anyone's atheism. If that particular individual is subject to the courts ruling, that person is subject to the laws of the United States and the state they are in. If a judge interprets the law/constitution with some sort of spiritual guidance, not having a copy of the Ten Commandments available will not hinder their thought process one bit. But, someone decided to moan and whine about it so now we are wasting tax payers dollars to address a non-issue.

I really wasn't sure what your motive with this thread was. Was it to criticize the judge's actions or to go off on a rant about Christianity? Well, if it was to rant and rave about Christianity, then consider your thread hijacked, because you didn't get the opportunity to do so. Based on your use of the term "these people" I think that was most likely your intent.

To summarize my feelings on the Christian/Atheism debate - leave me alone and I'll leave you alone. Don't attempt to take away my right to worship God and I won't violate any of your civil rights by forcing God on you. If you wish to discuss the topic then fine, I'll discuss it. If you don't then I'll mind my own business as long as you aren't posting attacks on Christianity. :)

One walks down the street at his own choosing, aware of the risks, and has the option of avoiding a smoker. When one is sitting in a restaurant, riding in an elevator, or appearing in court, then he is forced by circumstance to be there and should not be imposed on by the unhealthful and unappetizing bad habits of another.

Your right to smoke stops when it deprives annoyed non-smokers of fresh air.

You know, Rex, I'm curious: Why is it that atheists like yourself are so offended by the mere mention of something you profess not to believe in? Are you insecure about your decision to not believe, and thus consider mention of God an inconvenient reminder? Or are you really that afraid that somebody is going to try to impose their beliefs on you? Because, frankly, I was raised a Catholic, and as far as I'm concerned, you can believe or not believe whatever you want...I don't care. Just don't try to interfere w/ MY right to believe what I want. Most people I know feel the same way.

Recent studies have shown that as much as 86% of the American public believes in a Higher Being. Have we become such an upside down, bass-ackward society that the beliefs of the majority have to be subordinated to the will of a measly 14%?

people are forced to go to restaurants?

i hate these non smoking laws. you cant smoke in privately owned bars in manhattan. it is ridiculous. but it is great for freedom loving bars in hoboken who get the displaced smoker's business.

atheists dont want to impose anything on anyone. they dont want to further their views, they just want to remove yours from government. we do not want to replace the ten commandments from that courthouse and replace them with atheist propaganda. we just want the government to be completely secular and not endorse any religion. simple.

how is asking for a non-religious government trying to "subordinate" anyone? we want the propaganda removed!
