I, Like the rest of you are extremely disappointed in our loss to Georgia. Most of the posts on this thread that tried to deal with the issue have merit. Someone mentioned OL, you need much more than talent, etc. I agreen My observations are these: a) Although we had individual talent, our TEAM was not as talented as 2003. I mean did not play as a team as well. Coaching, senior leadership, I don't kmow. b) Miles is definitley a different type of motivator than saban. When dealing with young college men, I believe they did respond as well to Miles' motivation, because they were used to Saban. c) Key injuries did cost us at OL. You speak of Broussard, but for me it was the combination of Helms, Arnold & Miller. Ask yourself, why was McGill running 3rd string at Left guard before injuries to Helms & Arnold. The problem at georgia was the blocking assignments at left guard & center. No communication, no clue. My opinion. I love Niswanger & he filled in admirably last year at center. And he played every position in 2003, but usually as a backup. You had Whitworth, Peterson & Wilkerson. This year we only have Whitworth. The offensive line were individuals. We need to coach/recruit better at the Offensive line. d) Is it me, or would you take Rohan or Mauck over Russell? Russell now has been 3 years in the program. I'm pulling for him, but I sometimes shake my head. e) I was very concerned about the defense before the beginning of the year. After a rocky start they played very well. But... What is up with losing Jesse Daniels & the defensive backfield goes haywire. Don't want to sabanize here, but it appears as little as 2 years ago, we could rotate db's without much dropoff. f) For me I give Miles a pass this year & also for last years's recruiting season. Firstly for being his initial year but also with dealing with the hurricane. We were not ready for Arizona St., nor Tennessee, but I balme no one but the weather. Recruiting wise, this year we have to have Offensive lineman. g) I am proud of our team. Go tigers!
I agree with most of what you said except the above quote. I am disapointed with the Tenn. loss. As the season unfolded it was evident we should have beat the Vols. Georgia is a very good team. If we played them 10 times, I don't know what the split would be, but we would win our share. I am disappointed in the quality of our play more then the loss. When you play top programs you will suffer a few L's. Georgia game was plagued with mistakes. Take away four, the two long passes, blocked punt and interception and what a game we may have had.
