The biggest problem isn't that we don't have any talent at the skill positions. We have serious problems on the Oline. They can't run block for crap, and as long as we can't run the ball, we're screwed. I do think it is a big mistake by Jimbo not to have Skyler touch the ball way more on offense. I am a big Hester fan and he should be used to hurt defenses as well. I'm not sure about the doghouse factor, but Shyrone should of been the backup RB behind Addai and not JV.
Jimbo's base philosophy is to be 50% run and 50% pass by the end of the game. He seems to be very strict with this philosophy.
See this is the kidna crap that gets the attention off the coaches. Next year when we go 7-5 it'll be "All the seniors we lost last year." The next year 5-7 and it'll be "Saban really left the cupboard bear....let Miles recruit a couple years and we'll be back." We've already done all this stuff before......you people don't remember do you?
I agree. Too much negativity versus constructive criticism. My theory on the 'problem' alludes too Hawker's question of are we a run first or pass first team. That's just it - we don't know. The offense never really developed an identity and I don't think the offense is designed to maximize the talent around it. Also, one of our perceived deepest positions (RB) turned out to be anything but that. Addai is a solid back, but he's most effective on short yardage, picking up the blitz, or catching passes out of the bac. Losing Broussard hurt us more than we thought it would.
We do have a lack of playmakers, but no lack of dillusions about it. Skyler Green is a good WR. If he gets open space he can make some moves and create yards for us. But he hasn't gotten the seperation he needs for that open space and he isn't the Reggie Bush some fans think he is. He's good, not great. Broussard was our one legitimate playmaker before the season - he was the only one who had proved himself, IMO. His injury was very painful for the team. Addai is a very good back but just wasn't an every-down type of back we needed him to be & it caught up to him with the reoccurring injury. JaMarcus Russell is a "playmaker", but he's not consistent. When the games on the line & the clock is ticking down, there's nobody else I would rather see with with ball. But he's still learning & his attempts to make plays are sometimes to the detriment of the team. We had reason to believe our WR would develop quite nicely & we would have a very strong group of guys. The more I think about it, the more I realize how much of a mental block there has been for them all season. I don't know what exactly caused it (I don't think it was Miles), but the ability has always & is still, there, they just haven't utilized it because of mental breakdowns. Because of this, none of them have become the playmaker we hoped for. PS: Remember the Spring Game? Our WRs looked pretty dang good then under Miles & Fisher. This is leading me to the conclusion more & more that they just never got their heads straight after the hurricanes.
Yea right. Miles is getting heat for winning 10 games. Don't think 7-5 will be acceptable next year, much less 5-7 at any point during Miles' tenure here.
So very true! You could see that when LSU would get in a 2nd & 3yrs. and end up in a 3rd & 3yrs or more.:dis:
what was jim mora's statement about potential and talent? potential just means you haven't done it yet? I think he was directing it at the great vaughn dundar, perhaps? anyone, refresh my memory, please. that's my take on this LSU team - very talented but haven't quite tapped into that well. maybe it is the lack of hands on coaching than typified saban's regime at LSU.
