No. But there IS something wrong with making Les out to be a fool when he's performed better than any coach is LSU history. We were a quarterback away from performing just as you wish. How does that make Le into a fool?
Mettenberger is not a rookie, he had a year in the Georgia system and then a year in junior college throwing for 32 TD's and getting into the national championship game. With Mettenberger we will run a pro-style offense.
Having seen Crowton's offense at La Tech, I think Mett will do fine if Crowton returns. Crowton's natural offense is the BYU passing offense of the 80s. It's similar to the Florida offense of the 90s and the Texas Tech offense under Leach. He simply hasn't had anyone here that can run it completely, and that's including Flynn. That means he has to do things to compensate for QB shortcomings, like install the option and read option to take advantage of JJ's mobility. But I have seen no evidence that Crowton really knows how to make that happen. As a result, I figure Miles is the guy that puts us in the I, as evidenced by the game winning TD vs Tenn, which Miles called without Crowton on the headset. If Mett is the starter, look for us to base out of a three wide/shotgun formation, with our most popular plays being slants, bubble screens and draws, while throwing enough long balls to keep defenses honest. Gives us a chance to spread the defense, which our current hodge-podge can't do. Hopefully, committing to that type of offense will also reduce the number of substitution driven chaos events. This is the type of offense our current personnel, with an abundance of wide receivers and runners who can catch, can best support. JLee and the Rivers kid would probably be the best backups in that plan. I am not sure how committed Les is to that type of offense. I guess we will see after the bowl when we find out for sure if Crowton is coming back. GEAUX TIGERS
I just want to see a pro style offense. Power running game, leading to play action. Utilize the tight ends over the middle of the field, and running backs out of the backfield. Stretch the defense with the quick hits on the edge and the wide receiver inside screen. Use Jefferson as a wildcat option quarterback.
Ok, so based on your argument, what would you call U Tex or UF, both of who have equal talent to us. So, I guess Mack Brown must be a bloomin idiot, and Urban Meyer must be a babbling idiot. Or do they get a pass because of who they are? I mean look they had just as bad to worse records than we have had over the past, and yet they have the same talent.
He's a rookie to SEC competition, and that's what really matters. The coach has to commit to a system. We can't run one system with one QB, and another one with a different QB.
Yep ... this is true .. provided that CLM allows Mett to develop by letting him play his game. Rest assurred, however, if CLM holds on to some rediculous 2QB system with JJ .. it will not only hurt the team, it will hurt Metts development. Just look at A&M. They didn't go to some rediculous 2QB crap .. they scrapped their all Big12 QB, and went with Tann. Playing full time, he was able to develop, and the offense gelled. ... and they won 6 in a row, and will probably make that 7 in a row come January. TN ... did the same thing with Bray. They didn't do a bunch of split crap either .. they put the kid in and let him develop. Cam didn't do any split time with anyone .. he was the QB, and Malzan made it work with him. That was my beef with the way they did JLee. They didn't put him in and let him build on his momentum. Instead ... they tried to hold on to some hope that JJ was going to "snap out of it". And .. as soom as they saw a spark in the AL game .. back to the bench Lee went. It destroyed the kids confidence ... and .. don't tell me that wouldn't destroy your confidence!!! Like I said .. I don't blame Lee for just throwing in the towel after a few games. They should have let him start against McNeese and let him play the game. But they didn't. NONE of you can say squat about how good or bad he may be. Yer just talking out your azz if you think you can.
Well if you don't follow other top tier programs then what standard to you know to hold Les to. That just doesn't make sense, unless you are some 4 mill/yr coach yourself. There has to be a standard to compare him to, and those other programs would be the measuring stick, or do you just chose to watch 1 or 2 other programs and make a blanket assessment.
