As pointed out if Mett is the better QB, he will start. No one knows how he will do against SEC D's, but until he is put in game time situations, no one will. What we do know is that JJ and JL both suck against SEC D's, so I don't think it could be any worse. As we were told all season long JJ and JL both looked good in practice, against one of the best D's in the SEC, but come game time they left it all on the practice field and forgot to bring it with them. Keys to whoever is QB next season, probably Mett: OL play has to improve to keep the kid upright OC play calling, whoever it is, hopefully not GC, has to be developed to the strengths of who the QB is. Don't try to fit a square peg in a round hole. Our run game should be even better than this yr. So that will be the strength of the O. I was listening to Mike and Mike on ESPN radio the other day, and they were talking about O line play, but at the NFL level. They were discussing that O lines can be developed to support 3 types of offenses; primarily run, primarily pass, or good combination of both. Their point was if you have an O line that is geared for a specific type of play it won't be as effective in other areas. Meaning that if you are a primary run team, then the passing protection may not be as solid, or if you are a primary pass team then the run protection may not be as solid. This point got me to thinking, is this part of our problem. That we have a primarily run offense and the pass protection isn't very solid because of that. Not sure but it made sense to me, that our O line play during pass protection was pretty weak, especially when J Lee was on the field.
Really??? If he is a fool, then he has out smarted most of his counter parts a multitude of times. So what does that make them?
what would it take 10 wins a season on average over 6 years win the SEC win the BCSNC the best winning % in the history of LSU football with more than 5 years on the job what would it take?
You can't count being lucky though. Auburn had just as much luck this year if not more. They trailed in 8 games. They needed a last second field goal to beat Kentucky. LSU could have beaten them, Alabama should have beaten them. South Carolina could have beaten them in the 1st game, Clemson could have beaten them, Arkansas and Mississippi State could have beaten them. Georgia should have beaten them. Ebbs and flows are part of the game of football, it's how your team reacts, and how your team bounces back, and I think Miles has done a great job at doing everything he can to bounce back from the 08 campaign. 09 wasn't as horrible as everyone makes it out to be. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and I respect that, but you said it yourself, look at what happened without a quarterback.
I think you should look at how Les got 10 wins with this team and very little help from the QB play. Take the QB play away from Auburn or the Saints and you have very average teams. Give him a QB and lets see!
Miles will point to JJ's experience as the reason that he's the starter next year. After what he went through with JLee, I don't see any way that he starts a rookie. Honestly, I don't mind JJ starting (*gasp*) provided that we commit to the spread. JJ was fine in the spread for the last few games of the year. The only times we didn't produce was when we went back to the power-I in the Arky game. Other than that, we moved the ball very, very effectively against the tide and the manbearpigrebels. The conservative, short-pass game plan that they tried to force him into for the first 3/4 of the year will never work with him. He simply has to be able to move around in the pocket. Problem is, you can't really work ZM in when you're committed to the spread. As excited as I want to be about Mettenberger, it just raises a lot of questions.
No, but to insist that Miles is a fool because he had to overcome some shortcomings, that midseason sometimes can't be fixed, is a bit over the top. Note I said overcome shortcomings, it takes a pretty smart fella to win 10 games with what he was faced with. And to claim he hasn't proven it yet, that he isn't a fool, is a foolish statement.
solid or perfect win 100% of the time every year LSU plays the very best that college football has every year. LSU Aurburn Bama and the Gators Look at the last 5 Champs counting Auburn for this year and we play em all plus the Hogs are only getting better. What do you really expect to happen year in and year out?
