it gives hope to a team who had the worst gameday coach in the conference in Mark Richt. there was a lot of similarities with 'confusion' as he watched our game I suppose. Mark Richt is a complete bonehead in many quick decisions during games. Fortunately, his staff often outweighs them and they win in spite of him.
I agree that Pelini will be here next year, but do I think that soft zone coverage scheme that he runs will be successful at LSU - NO. For some reason, LSU players after the Bill Arnsparger era have not understood the fundamentals of zone coverage. Arnsparger ran a lot of the bend but don't break defense, but he was an unbelievable coach at teaching the players, because he was really successful using that philosphy. But one thing has happened since he was coach. Spurrier - he started chucking the ball around like never before in the SEC and now everyone does it. Also most of these secondary players were offensive players in high school and usually one of the most talented players on the field. Zone coverage requires players to be a student of the game and have very good instincts. These guys were so used to be so much faster and stronger than most that they did not have to understand the subtlties of playing zone until this year. Even under Saban, LSU was not good in zone - See Arkansas '02 and Iowa in Capital One Bowl at the end of the game.
If what Crawfish and Tiger777 say is correct about the players LSU will fall like a sinking ship, mutiny. I hoping for the best but only time will tell but I would say as of now that I have my doubts LSU will be a top program. As far as recruiting, no way Miles can recruit as good as Saban IMO Hope I'm wrong!
