Not a problem here BTB, Sexton and the other talking heads just keep talking to keep it going. All we LSU fans can do is enjoy the season. Hell, if Michigan beats ND and they end up with no wins in September or through mid October, somebody will be wondering how much ND will put on the table for Pete Carroll or Nick Saban. The only safe bet is that old Lou will not be mentioned as a coach anywhere. The really interesting thing in all of this is that some of the same folks who discount CLM as a head coach are also working the Miles to Michigan rumor – seems to be a bit of a conflict, unless their position is Miles is mediocre and Michigan is stupid. Maybe Michigan should get Saban for a few years to recruit and then Miles can come in a win with Saban’s recruits. ldskule: ldskule: ldskule:
Unless Michigan turns it around and kicks arse in their conference, we're going to hear this Miles to Michigan stuff all year - so best settle in. Hug it like a sassy two year-old, and enjoy the season. I hope he stays, but there are other great coaches who can lead all this talent. I'm more worried about our ability to pick a new coach than our ability to keep Miles. If he wants to go, he'll go. Hell, if I was coaching at Michigan and LSU called, I'd take a pay cut to coach my alma mater.
Look I know we are going to hear this all year unfortunately. I do not want to lose CLM, but I hope he does not screw us, even unintentionally, by waiting til after :crystal: to leave, when the pool of replacements would be low . However, my only point is really that it is crazy to watch this speculation take a life of its own, period. ESPN is just the fertilizer, literally and figuratively. Personally, I am glad he has a whole season to mull this over, I think that works to our advantage! I'm done!! :thumb: :geauxtige
I would gladly suffer a national championship for a shorter field of possible replacements. And my man, it's NOT just ESPN. Some of my best CFB buddies are Penn State guys and they've asked a couple of times (dating back to last season) whether Miles was headed to their conference. People are genuinely interested in this topic.
Well, that is not to say that we're playing with Saban's players. Only winning with them. When we lose, we're losing with Miles' players. At exactly what point did commentators become generally retarded? I'm willing to bet that whoever is coaching the team in 20 years will still be labeled as winning with Saban's players. Saban's players, as we all know, never graduate. They're professional college football players. Freaking idiots.
To answer the original question of "Will ESPN ever let Miles/Michigan die?" The answer is yes. It will die when one of four things happen: 1. Michigan hires Les Miles to coach their team, 2. Michigan hires someone other than Les Miles to coach their team, 3. Michigan decides to retain Lloyd Carr through next season, or 4. Les Miles signs a lucrative contract extension with LSU that effectively closes the door on him leaving for Michigan. Of the four, only one of them has a chance in hell of happening before December, so we're likely going to hear all this rumor and speculation for the rest of the season. The good news is that this will not be a multi-year saga like it was with Nick Saban. There's a 99% chance that this matter is resolved for the near future after this year. Either he's leaving LSU this offseason or he's not leaving LSU voluntarily for the next 4 or 5 years if not longer. By National Signing Day, we'll either be secure with Les Miles or we'll have another head coach in place.
Exactly! As long as you're winning there will always be someone who wants your coach. I'm sure if USC had a dollar for every Pete Carol to the NFL rumor they'd have enough money to buy at least three recruits parents new houses.
