Yeah, but even if coach K stays, there is still a need to worry. He is right, college basketball is in a bad place these days. Its really hard for me to say what is right in this case. Free enterprise is all well and good, and its one of the things that makes this country the global superpower that it is. These kids SHOULD be able to pursue whatever they wish, but it sure as hell is killing the game.
Coach K better not leave...I am about to start my MBA at Duke this fall, and I was really looking forward to being a Cameron Crazy. That would just be my luck that the entire program comes crashing down right when I arrive! It seems to me that this is just another step towards the fall of the sport of basketball. College B-Ball has been devastated by the early exit of the best players to the NBA (and the very best skipping college altogether)....but the NBA has been hurt as well, as it has turned into a developmental league, aside from a few franchises with a legitimate shot at the championship. There is no question in my mind that the quality of play in the NBA would be much higher if they used an NFL-type system. In fact, I think the NBA would have a much easier time justifying it, as their is always the CBA to play in if a player doesnt want to go to college.
I hope he does leave and I would like it! I would like to see teams other than Duke and North Carolina have a chance for #1. The Cameron Crazies would then have to go back to hiding in the closet. I don't think it will happen though, Coach K probably likes being a college basketball coach at Duke and you have just as many problems dealing with players in the pros than you do at the college level. Remember Nick's comments about college versus pro?
