I kind of enjoyed the Florida game that year. It wasn't too cold, just rainy and those kind of games can be fun. We didn't get totally blown out until later in the game so it was worth staying. Once you get soaked it doesn't matter if it is raining anyways. I definitely remember the cheerleaders running and doing slides a la Pete Rose in the gigantic puddles on the sidelines. Playing in the rain and mud, sliding in the puddles were always fun as a kid. Good times.
First, as long as CBS makes the game a national broadcast at 11:30 AM the day after Thanksgiving, we will never face Arkansas in a night game. Second, I remember that Florida game. I had six tickets, used two, and dropped the other four in the water. I had great seats for that game and the Arkansas game because I moved up--there were few people there. The Florida game was fun because of the rain. I had fun with it, anyway. The game, though, was a wash. I am enjoying seeing DiNardo suck in Bloomington. I wonder when he has his Knight-esque blowup. . .
The real issue here is will LSU ever see the real Arkansas. They play their home games with us at War Memorial (aka-A Hell Hole High School Stadium). They want to make the game more of a rivialy but we don't even play them on campus. They need to move the game to Razorback Stadium. There will be more excitement and atmosphere if the game was there, plus it can hold more people and it is 100% nicer than War Memorial.
I totally agree about War Memorial. But if we mention it, they say "LSU doesn't win in The Rock". As if Less people in WMS will somehow intimidate us. That is their ongoing excuse anyway.
???? I thought the Arkansas game was Rocking!!!!!!! Where were you sitting ???it was a close game til towards the end! I remember it well it was Thanksgiving Holiday I brought in my relatives who are OU fans and they were impressed. The next weekend was Auburn when they stomped on our eye and the Auburn player ran into an LSU Tuba guy. The Florida game that year was one of the most cold miserable games I can remember.
Re: ???? You are referring to the 2001 season, while others are referring to the 1999 game that was the first and only game after DiNardo was fired. The stadium was barren, but we did have a good time whipping up on bowl-bound Arkansas. Actually, the 2001 Arkansas game was rather empty, too. None of my entire tailgate party showed up to the game although the game was very important to LSU's run for the SEC Championship. I think a lot of people choose to take the day off because it is the day after Thanksgiving and on national TV. The following week for the makeup game with Auburn was a fullhouse, though, and Auburn paid dearly for that eye-stomping incident!
Saban choosing to go with an onside kick, us recovering, and scoring a couple of plays later was one of the top ten moments for me in Tiger Stadium History! We really put it to them that night, would be great to do it again this year (as well as chant "overrated" to them like they did us last year).
