This is why, as Tiger fans, we need to be watching the Rose Bowl and pulling - for the second time in a month - for Lloyd Carr's Michigan Wolverines. A UM win pulls the rug out from under the AP writers.
I can agree with all of that. If LSU was in SC's position right now, after what happened this weekend, we would really be getting the shaft (Even if we were playing Michigan in the Rose). would ESPN and ABC bill the LSU/Michigan Rose as the "other" NC? I doubt it. Would the AP vote an LSU win over Michigan higher than a SC victory over Okla? No way. SC is/and has been getting special treatment all year. Hopefully Michigan will expose SC and LSU and Okla can truly play for the total NC.
quoted by Tigerwins: ..................................................................................................... Funny how the system is fair now that LSU is in it. If Notre Dame or Hawaii would have won, we would not be in the Sugar Bowl ... and no LSU fan would be claiming the system is fair! USC won their conference, OU didn't ... USC has every right to complain and should be playing LSU! ........................................................................................................ I agree with this: What if Notre Dame and Hawaii had won. Does that mean the SEC Champion would've got screwed and sent to the Rose Bowl?
There is one thing we will all agree on over the next month. Go Michigan. I live here in Baton Rouge and all of my coworkers know I'm an OU alum and huge fan. My buddies and I have been playing "what if" all year concerning an OU/LSU match up. Well now we have it and I think it will be a great one. I was flipped the bird twice today heading home from work on I-10. It was either due to my OU vanity license plate or my driving. I didn't know my driving was so bad.
First of all, the BCS might taint the NC this year. If USC wins, they have a great shot at getting a split championship (AP). Second, USC belongs in the Sugar over OU. It's that simple, really.
Read the damn post and quit making stupid comments. The point of the thread went right over your head.
I get irritated with all the comments regarding how if only ND or Hawaii had won then USC would rightfully be in the Sugar. If only Florida, Alabama, etc, etc. had won the week before then Hawaii and ND may not have meant diddly. If only I could pull the winning Powerball ticket out my bum...... USC is #1 for one reason. Because they lost earlier than LSU and Oklahoma - not because they are truly the best team. I'm conflicted as to whether USC deserves to be in the Sugar or not. I can understand both sides of the arguments. However, LSU is #2 in human and computer polls so there is no controversy. LSU deserves to be there. Period! I think the BCS accomplished its intent to get the two best teams in the championship game. How it all came about is certainly controversial and USC is understandably miffed. It is a shame that LSU's NC could be tarnished in the eyes of some by this controversy.
The BCS was established to do exactly what it has done The purpose of the BCS including computer polls was to take the choice of who was #1 AWAY from the humans. The coaches and the writers said they didn't want to be responsible for making the decision as to who went to the NCG, so the BCS added the computer polls. Now that the human polls and the BCS rankings disagree, dummies like Trev and Mark are saying there is a problem. Seems stupid to try to tweak the computers to make them act like the humans. If we want to have the BCS exactly mimic the human poll, WHY HAVE THE BCS? Just use the human poll! But that's not why the media is calling for a change in the BCS. The problem here is that USC was the team left out--USC has almost the clout and cachet that ND has. Frankly, I hope the BCS makes a rule that if you don't win your conference championship you can't compete for the National Championship, but that isn't the rule this year. USC has no right to complain; they're bitching up a storm that they don't have the "benefit" of a conference championship game in the Pac-10--no one thought it was a benefit to have to play a 13th game before today. They also say that they shouldn't be penalized for playing a very weak Notre Dame team because they scheduled ND when it was stronger--well, them's the breaks--luck is involved in every National Championship, luck about injuries, luck in refs' calls, luck in plays, luck in weather, blah, blah, blah. In the end, though this isn't really going to matter, because Michigan is going to wipe USC up----and the Sugar will crown the National Champions: LSU Tigers!!
My reason for saying USC got what they deserved is because on another LSU board, many of them over and over constantly bumping their gums about who they played and our schedule is weak and on and on. During the week leading up to the SECCG. My point was simple. I will not allow the crap to taint this season for me, I've waited too damn long. The BCS jerks should have fixed this mess after NU backed into the MNC in 2001. It's the system we have and it's not our Tigers fault it worked out as it did. USC should be in the Sugar, I do not dispute that or didn't intend to. The Tigers earned the right to be there too! We beat OU and we're the NC and I don't give a damn about the AP.
