Most people didn't vote in the election so Obama received votes from less than 25% of Americans. I'm not sure where the "most" comes from but I hope you didn't get that from, ABC, CBS, NBC, or MSNBC as they're all full of crap.

The margain of victory wasn't as wide as some would like to believe. The Democrats weren't elected because they had great ideas or experience...they were elected because people wanted hope and change.

Many in the black community probably won't care if Obama fails, they'll vote for him again. It's the rest of the Obama voters that will expect change otherwise he (and Pelosi & Reid) may be shown the door.

I would argue that most Americans don't know what his views are yet. Even the most liberal Democrat out there will have a hard time arguing that Obama was ever challenged in the media. He was never asked the tough questions and nevr had to thoroughly explain his stance. We probably won't have a clear picture for months.

I hope he does well and the country needs leadership. I also hope he has great ideas because I have never seen so many sheep willing to do anything he says. I just don't want excuses blamed on the previous administration and I don't want to hear cries of racism anytime someone questions Obama's decisions.

We keep blaming Bush but let's not forget that the House and Senate have lower ratings than Bush and have thus far (in two years) been an absolute failure. With total control, there shouldn't be a single excuse.

This has been very historical for me in a greater sense of what this country has been through and able to overcome in many facets of struggle. You guys can try to diminish it all you want, it still doesnt stop the fact that this moment has arrived. His ability to do the job will be measured, praised or criticized, it will be measured by the results he gets. Thats always up for debate and compromise. But whats uncompromising to me is the fact that this country is amazing and is able to heal itselt from self-inflicted wounds of the past, we have ways to go, but its a good feeling. I brought my umbrella, just so you cant piss on my parade or head. :thumb:(Still smiling)

Well, after sitting 8 hours a day in front of a computer, I often avoid the damn things on my nights and weekends . . . but it's tax time, ya' know.

I'm happy for you as well as millions of others as this day has finally arrived. I believe most of us (50 and under) thought this day would happen but just weren't sure when.

As you mentioned, he will be "measured, praised or critized". That's all I ask. I don't want him to be an African-American, black, or mixed race president. I want him to be an American president. Nobody should fault him for the color of his skin while at the same time...nobody should cut him slack due to it either.

I don't completely agree we "we have a ways to go". That's the part that always troubles me. My question is...When will it be enough? There seems to be many who cry foul or make charges of racism everytime they don't get their way. This needs to end. There are also special "set-asides" that need to have an end date.

Some feel that they're owed something. I don't agree. Playing the race card is shameful and has been done so often that the people who are actually facing discrimination are likely to be doubted due to the excessive, unjustifiable allegations.

Obama mentioned that the government isn't the answer and the people need to accept responsibility. I hope he meant that and I hope all his supporters truly understand that. It's time to stop pointing fingers and start looking in the mirror if you're not where you want to be. The only person stopping you in this country is yourself.

MM...you probably can influence a lot more people in the communities that feel disenfranchised that I ever could. All I ask is that you continue to provide encouragement and also express that the hatred needs to end. The feeling of many that white people are the only racists and black people are the only victims is ridiculous.

Many of us don't hate Obama or voted for McCain because he's black or mixed, etc. I don't agree with the majority of what the Democrats have to say, so I voted for a less than ideal McCain. I saw a lot us versus them yesterday and that doesn't sound like a nation united to me.

God bless you! I hope someday in the near future we won't have to mention race or color at all. I hope for a day when we don't hear certain words, or use terms like African-, Mexican-, Asian-, etc. as a prefix to American, or have to have a Ms. Black America Pageant, Latino Grammys, BET, or har about the KKK, Black Panthers, or Aztlan.

We will never live in harmony if we keep making special programs representing one group. It's time for all that to end. :usaflagwa

    Probably not...BUT anything can happen.

Have you taken a look at the textbooks they're using in schools these days? They don't print "what" happened. They print "what they want you to believe" happened.

I heard they even changed the latest version of ET and replaced the police guns with radios. I can't confirm but if it's true...:nope:.

Honestly, I appreciate your sentiment and the words you provide in your post.

When I say we have a ways to go, there is alot of racial unrest in every part of society whether it is black or white or brown. I know you cant change peoples hearts through legislation, so I agree some programs aimed at special interest need to stop. However, a ways to go to me means, immigration reform, funding for inner city schools and educational programs. Its poor white people in inner city and rural areas that suffer from under funded schools and educational programs, just as blacks and other races. This country was built on immigration and forced labor. So its a tad bit hypocritical when people say immigration is ruining this country. I dont think we should just open the borders and let everyone in, but there should be comprehensive legislation aimed at a organized way to control immigration.

More likely Benedict Arnold as he turned his back on the American people just like he was bought and placed in the White House to do.

When my radio is on, it's tuned to Sirius Roadhouse or XM Willie's Place so, no, I didn't hear what Rush or Hannity had to say.

I've been trying to put my finger on what had me so much on edge yesterday and I think you nailed it.

I want Obama to be the be the best President we've ever had. I just want the ignorant masses to look forward and quit bashing Bush, a good man, for every problem they are having in their miserable lives.

And Red...don't respond. I only have to go back and read your thousand or so posts on the matter to know how you feel.

It has always been that way. In grade school in the 60's I was taught that America had never lost a war. Well, we lost the War of 1812 in spectacular fashion and they taught it like it was a win.

I was taught that America didn't invade and take land from other countries. Well, we invaded Canada in 1812 and we invaded Mexico in 1847, annexed half of the country and kept it. They taught us that "Manifast Destiny" ordained us to take the land between us and the Pacific . . . rarely mentioning that California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico were all Mexican before being taken in the American conquest.

Politicians always get involved with textbook revisionism of history. The Japanese version of WWII doesn't mention the atrocities, war crimes, and oppresssion they committed. You can imagine what Palestinian textbooks say about the circumstances of the creation of Israel. American textbooks are no different and never have been because politicians get involved.

Hell, in Louisiana our 19th century backward-ass legislature keeps bucking the supreme court to have creation mythology taught in science classes instead of social studies where it belongs.
