People need to stop calling for the TE involvement in the offense LOL.

They were horrid tonight. Penalties, poorly ran routes, dropped balls, etc etc etc. I think we all see the reason why the coaches don't call on the TE to make plays very often - they might see this stuff in practice as well.

Yea, I would think that display tonight would rather encourage TE recruits to come here...surely any top TE recruit would feel they could do better than what they saw tonight. Heck, we may need to try that frosh Anderson and see if he can be more consistent.

No one mentioned the 6 points that Zinger dropped in the end zone. Wide open, hits him in both hands and he tries to catch it with his body. He better be catching 100 balls at the juggs machine this morning...

What made me upset about the TE situation is the fact that both mistakes that were made by the TE's were fundamental mistakes...

David Jones didn't have the both tucked in and didn't protect it at all after he caught it.

Zinger dropped a ball that was right in his freakin bread basket. Maybe JR had a little too much power on it, but when watching the play again, I noticed that Zinger turned as he caught it. And as anyone that has ever played football knows, you catch with your two feet planted and then you turn.

I think maybe miles played them a bit last night to maybe show the public:

"hey I know what im doing. Our TE's just need to block. we have plenty of wide receivers"

    ?

no just the opposite. same way our WR's dropped the ball moreso in the first few games as a group, TE's need gametime catches as well.

the fact that never happens is the result of last night.

I agree, that gametime play and reps is a real phenomenon. You hear coaches from high school to the NFL talk about it. Maybe they could also use that Mike Leach tennis ball blaster drill to improve their H/E, focus, and hand catching technique. Leach is an oddball on a lot of things, but that is a a solid drill imo.

I said it on another thread.

Coaches teach people that handle the ball alot to put both hands on it when you see that you are about to get hit just because of the fact that a defender can punch at the ball and pop it out easier when you have one hand on it.

We teach our defense the same thing and i even saw drills on it when ESPN showed our practice.

That is just good football and if our guys would start doing it we would see less fumbles.

As for interceptions it is alot about good decisions on the QB and some of it is just luck.

In the USC - ASU game i saw 2 interceptions by USC due to just having the ball go right to the dback. Nothing you can do about those.

Jamarcus Russell sometimes tries to use his arm and force balls where they have no business being thrown. If he can develop a better feel for this and get into a confident and smart place in his game management the upside is endless.

Turnovers are just frustrating and if we dont turn it over at Vandy i think we would have seen the first complete domination of the season for the Tigers.

Im hoping that comes together against Florida and Auburn where the defense and the offense play quality ball. And cut out all the damn stupid penalties.

We cant even have a punt return without a block in the back. The coaches need to tell the guys if there is any remote possibility of a block in the back dont block. Skylar can do most of it on his own.

Maybe Florida is a good time to go back to the tight end because Fla. wont be expecting it.

I was really disappointed with Jones last night because I've always thought he had such potential--and we rarely throw to him. Zinger's drop in the endzone was also unacceptable. We could really use the TE dimension in our offense.

And amen on the blocking in the back on punt returns. This is our last season with the greatness of Skyler Green. He doesn't need much help to make things happen!
