That is a damn shame but sadly true. They all seem to be this way in some degree. Just makes me glad to be a part of this forum that much more. And thanks to all the mature, intelligent fans of opposing teams(like yourself), that make actual discussion possible.

That was exactly the point. Only Pac Ten members think their conference is comparable in strength, the rest of the country knows this, and Miles is guilty of saying it out loud.

This is a debate I've generally avoided; one of those things that seems like a waste of time, ya know?

Earlier this morning I was surfin' around the SI.CNN site and decided I would look over their projected SOS. It's far too early to say this is accurate, but I do think it is telling.

They rated the top 25 in terms of difficulty...came out like this.

    1) Washington
    2) South Carolina (w/ one 1-AA)
    5) Auburn (w/one 1-AA)
    6) Tennessee
    7) Florida (w/ one 1-AA)
    8) USC
    9) Stanford
    10) Mississippi State (w/ 1-AA)
    11) Kentucky (w/ 1-AA)
    14) Georgia (w/ 1-AA)
    18) LSU
    20) Washington State
    22) Arizona

    Top 10 has 5 SEC and 3 Pac-10.
    Top 25 has 8 SEC and 5 Pac-10.

Notice none of the Pac-10 have any 1-AA teams on their schedule. I see two ways to look at this. One, they aren't scheduling any 1-AA teams to play and on the other hand even though 6 SEC teams have scheduled 1-AA opponents their SOS still ranks as the hardest in the country.

I, like a lot of people, don't think SEC should be scheduling 1-AA opponents. But, considering the rest of the schedule it dumbs that down a bit, don't ya think?

It should be noted that most of the I-AA teams are in the eastern part of the country. By far.

Better or worse? I'm not doubting, but even then when I think I-AA I think App State, etc. All of the post-season competitors seem to come from the East Coast.

But don't also forget that many AA-1 schools actively solicit top SEC programs with 80,000+ seat stadiums to help fund their own athletic departments.

Schools like Western Carolina will eagerly take a thumping at the drop of a hat if a typical SEC gate is going to put plenty of money in the bank.
