For those who supported the trash talk, I guess today's interview with ESPN negated the arguments on the positive affects it has.....as Miles was sure more reserved on his comments. Or maybe he figured it was no use to repeat himself........any thoughts??

I do think he showed the class we've come to expect from him. :thumb:

I didn't regard it as trash talk to begin with, even though every sc fan has said just that. Again, apparently writers can speak the truth but coaches can't.
As to his statements today, I think he recognized immediately that he was being goaded into further statements and that they would not serve his purpose, but rather ESPN. Even so, he did not back down from his intent, which was to declare that he believes the SEC to be tougher. He stated it again. I think everyone is extremely surprised how much play this has gotten, including Miles, and he accurately pointed out what a bad news cycle this must be.

Proof of this lame interview are the follow up questions:

Have you spoken to PC about this?
Where do you rank your team?
How has Saban effected your job?

Great questions to be sure. Very insightful. What is this, Jerry Springer? You have the coach of the pre season #2 team on your show, with more NFL first rounders set to go again after this year, and you don't ask a single question about his team or his players? Are you kidding?

Basically, I think the whole speech boiled down to who he was talking too, booster clubs and supporters at a lsu ralley. It's kind of like when your high school coach used to give your football team a big rah rah speech in the locker room before the game. Some of the stuff he said about the other team obviously isn't supposed to leave the room, in fact, most of it could probably be used as bulliten board material by the other team if they heard what he was saying, and the way he said it in there is totally different how he might say the same thing if he was interviewed by the paper or something.

Obviously Les knew when he talked to the booster club in Pensacola (I think?) that there was proabbly some media there and yes it might get out a little bit but I doubt he thought it would garner this much national attention and hindsight being what it is he might have watched his words a bit more. But all in all I don't think it was that big a deal.

Certainly nothing he said was worse then some of the asanine comments ole Petey has made in the past. I'll never forget the comments he made in the weeks leading up to the final week of the '03 seaseon " yea will go with whatever happens in the bcs and take whatever comes to us as far as who is in the championship" (paraphrasing of course) to suddenly "now we understand how this works and basically we're still in the championship even though this isn't hte NC game and we are not playing the second best team according to the bcs."

Of course the one that will always make me hold a grudge against USC wr Mike Williams was his infamous "I've seen those guys play (LSU '03 season) and I've seen sorority pillow fights harder than that". (Quoting word for word)Now you wanna talk about the definition of a disrespectful and idiotic comment that's about as good as it gets

Maybe "Smack talk" would have been a better choice of words, "Trash" and "Miles" don't go together; however, plenty of LSU fans too felt that way too- not based on where the truth lies, rather, on the appropriateness of calling out teams. If, say, Bobby Bowden said the same of Kentucky, Vanderbilt, etc. our reaction would be the same.

    Didn't you say this:
Even went as far as to agree that there wasn't "That much" disparity tween the SEC and the Pac:
Aquiring a little affinity for them ehh? :hihi:

My point exactly......about the "Appropriateness". "Further" signifies a matter of degree. To use it shows acknowledgement that they were, in the very least, questionable. :thumb:

I agree, definitely could have asked him better questions. :thumb:

Where are the "plenty of fans" that felt like you do? I saw a couple here on TF but that was all. Perhaps we should have a poll.

That's funny. Now I'm taken out of context from a decidedly hostile/juvenile mud slinging board for USC. When I found one of the very few reasonable posters online, I felt no need to split hairs with him, and while I do think that the SEC is better than everyone, I have never felt that we are head and shoulders above everyone. That was his only point, and it was one of his concession, not mine.
Hardly. I have never liked USC nor will I in the future. I do not equate the common sense of acknowledging ability and giving respect as having affinity. Case in point, I can understand anyone's hatred of our team, but not an unwillingness to recognize our superiority. Big difference.

I don't agree. It merely reflects that Miles showed the savvy to understand when he was being manipulated to hurt himself and the university, and did not allow it to happen. He obviously believes the intent of his statements are true but the purpose has been perverted by USC/PAC10 fans and the media. Miles also was not that kind to his former conference. Who speaks for them? Not the media, and it is simply because USC has been anointed as the best team this year. As USC continues to win, either by large or small margins, we will hear more of "how dominant they are", "head and shoulders above the rest of the field", "foregone conclusion of playing in the NCG".
Much the same as we had to listen to all last year about OSU. Didn't work out so well for them.
