why is the south so poor?

    You made it sound like no one who becomes educated gets past that. The ones I was talking about on FB are folks who never left their hometown and didn't really educate themselves about different perspectives and regions.

    High minority population = High dropout rate

    A dropout rate means poor-paying/high-risk jobs, poor nutrition choices, higher rates of alcoholism, drug abuse, etc. The graduation rate among blacks in East Baton Rouge is about 55%. Its simple math.

    I see two pages of reasons to never vote for a Republican, yet all of the South is painted red...

    The south hasn't changed the way it votes for 150 years. The politicians changed parties after the 1964 voting rights act.

    Pretty sure most people here are aware of that. I'm not sure what that has to do with my post though.

    Just to be clear, you're stating that the South is painted red because it "hasn't changed the way it votes for 150 years. The politicians changed parties after the 1964 voting rights act." That answers nothing. It is a statement of the obvious which doesn't explain why poor people in the South don't vote for their own interests.
