Why is Skip Bertman low-balling Dennis Shaver?

Sports isn't ALL about money, is it? The problem in Baton Rouge is that it's a Bubba town and no one cares about Women's Sports. It's true and it's sad.
Every game should be sold out. If this team were in other parts of the Country it would receive a lot more support.

In all fairness, I'm a huge basketball fan. I even tried to watch women's basketball a FEW times, and found it more horrible each time I tried. I'm sure it's a great thing for the folks involved, and maybe even their parents. However, the game is simply unwatchable.

The theory is truly great -- pure basketball, below the rim, without the men's tendency to one-on-one every possession. I get that. It falls apart in the execution. The sloppiness, slow play (not pace of the game), uninteresting play. That's OK, though. It's just unwatchable for most rational folks.

And the Nykesha Sales incident completely removed WBB from the sporting landscape in my opinion. Yes, I had to google the incident to find her name. Giving away records in a feel-good effort is arguably more reprehensible than fixing games.

It's OK that some folks like WBB. That doesn't make it inexplicable though. If I didn't like the folks here, I would suggest they look at the WNBA for a benchmark. But I would only do that to Auburn fans.

So did Shaver accept being low-balled?

Or was this a medium balling?

Or was this even a high balling?

Is there a clause that prevents him from stealing Trindon Holliday?

Undermining? Shell Game? Likely we will not see "trackfan" posting anytime soon.

    No Limit,

I find MEN'S basketball out of control, frenetic and showy. It's all about point of view. I wish LSU fans of all sports would support our Women. I find it insulting that we've gone to the final four FOUR years in a row and that we don't get more respect and bodies in the arena. Can you imagine how crazy you fans would go if the men's team accomplished that? Do you think there's a possibility that there's a little lack of respect for Women athletes going on here? And BTW, if you like dunking, Big Syl will be doing it this year.

Again, to each, his/her own. I just find WBB unwatchable, and as such, do not care about the program. Given that perspective, I would prefer to see resources diverted away from such programs, and put into programs that I like.

The Final Fours are great, I guess. I just don't care. Of course most fans would be elated if the men kept going to Final Fours. That's entirely apples and oranges though, on many levels -- from level of competition, talent, interest, national importance (regardless of what ESPN tells us, WBB is irrelevant), and general entertainment. Sort of like soccer.

I think lack of respect is putting it too harshly. It's more just general indifference. Like if the Special Olympics are televised, I wouldn't watch. It's not because I think less of them giving their all and accomplishing things that are important to them. It's that I'm just not entertained by their exhibition -- just like WBB, soccer, and quite a few other things.

Another example -- Mixed martial arts is the hot craze, and I tried watching that too. I just am not interested. I like boxing. Most folks don't now. I don't implore other people to care about boxing or respect them and whatnot.

It appears I was misread the situation. At least I hope I did for the sake of the track program.

Yeah, I watch and follow ALL major LSU sports. But, Women's basketball just isn't that interesting to me. I still watch it, but track is a lot more interesting to me.

Men's. Showy? Well, sports is entertainment. About Fowles dunking... we've been hearing the SAME old schtick since she was a freshman. I've begun to doubt that she could even do it. Why would she not dunk, if she could do it. As for me not respecting women's sports, that's rubbish. I love track--men and women. I love watching LSU softball, but women's college bball doesn't have enough energy for me to follow. No blocks, no dunks, no physical play on defense. I wish that it were more interesting, but sadly, it isn't.

It is well known that Skip and Henry did not get along. Henry resented the attention, fan attendance and salary that Skip got after while winning five baseball national championships versus his string of track national championships. Baseball basically out-drew track to become the #3 sport at LSU and Henry bitched loud and long to Joe Dean. Then . . . Skip became AD and he didn't have to take any more crap from Pat Henry. Pat got a good offer, Skip didn't match it and waved goodbye. Then he hired a good man on his way up. He'll keep getting riases as long as he wins.

I don't justify it, the subject was track. I just justify paying a track coach what he's worth, not what the track coaches at four or five other schools are worth. Obviously you are some kind of big track fan, fine. But you must realize that LSU cannot make each and every one of its coaches the highest paid coach in the country. LSU doesn't have that kind of money. Not even Texas does. even then it wouldn't guarantee championships.

Skip places football, basketball and baseball higher than track in revenue allocation. That's how most people would rank them, you know.
