A major reason Nick Saban wanted to leave Michigan State and come to LSU was because there was not another prominent program in the state of Louisiana. So, Id say this is working out nicely for us right about now. We don't need another Louisiana school to get elevated to (or close to) the same level as LSU. :geaux:
Re: number of schools Yes but year in and year out most of those teams suck at football. UNC, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest all have good basketball programs but when is the last time a North Carolina school won the ACC in football and played in a major bowl?
Yes but year in and year out most of those teams suck at football. UNC, Duke, NC State, Wake Forest all have good basketball programs but when is the last time a North Carolina school won the ACC in football and played in a major bowl? __________________ that may be true, none of them are national powerhouses, but, NC State did got to a BCS bowl and beat down Notre Dame last year, despite not winning their conference. We didn't do that(unfortunately). I am just saying that a state the size of Louisiana can support 4 year institutions, but the schools them selves have to put up the money. those schools are competitive with each other every year.
Mississippi has 3 prominent universities(state, ole piss, and USM) and look where it gets them. The 3 compete with each other for instate talent, as well as with the LSUs, bama's etc. What do they have... 3 mediocre programs because the talent base is so spread out. Kill two of those schools and you might have a strong SEC contender every year.
