Bubba, do you remember the quote of a confederate general where he explicitly stated that this war was about the South's belief in slavery? I can't recall it exactly, but remember reading it.

The ONLY REASON slavery was an issuse is because the North used it to presuda the northern states that the war is justified. And to gain the support. That is a noble cause to free the slaves that is a reason to die for. The south was merely doing what the colonies had done years before.
How can you justify going to war with someone when the reasoning behind it is the same one that forged this country. So the North had to use the slavery issue to gain support for the cause.

And you are right that the KKK has tarnished the symbol of our hertiage. But the Black Pantehrs and Malcom X tarnished the black movement with ways of violence also.

Listen to this and hear me on this!!

The more times we cross this line of free speech, the more times we tramble on our rights to do things, the more times we allow things to be taken from us. The easier it will be for this governement to fall one day!

As a nation we are still a baby and growing. Do not think for one minute that one day someone is not gonna try and step up and take all of this away. And if we contunie to allow ourselves to be pushed or treatened into giving up our rights. The same rights that bore this country, then it will just make us easy for the picking.

Even in this nations most recent horror, 9/11, there were still people bitching about being offended about things. We need to grow up and get on to the more important things in our life.

Because all of this everything we have come to expect and love can all be gone at the blink of an eye.

Crip, I never once said the flag should be banned. For me, this isn't an issue of whether the flag should be banned or not, it clearly should not, but whether LSU fans should show respect for our black community & chose not to display it.

I have attended classes at three different universities. I attended most of these classes after my time in the Corps. Lets just say I have very little respect for our institutions of higher education, and anyone who basis their beliefs on what is said in them. Go to school, get an education, just don't be brain washed.

The queers stole the rainbow from the Church. I still view the rainbow to mean God's promise, not gay, bi, transgenderd, lesbian, or whatever they are.

What we belief the war was fought over doesn't matter. What some piece of crap history prof. teaches in his class doesn't matter. What matters is what the one's fighting the war believed. 99.9% did not own slaves and couldn't have cared less if they were freed or not. It was a non issue. The institution of slavery was not something the Confederates used to rally the troops behind the Stars and Bars. Freedom and respect were.

Respect is a 2 way street.

Ok your image under your name shows someone drinking right?

If I was a recovering acholohic I might find that offensive, would you have the respect for me and take it off?

I know that sounds small and petty but that is were we are heading with this.

If they are having people waving it in there face as they walk by and are of a phyiscal threat to them, then I say they have a reason to complain about it. But if it is the mere sight of the flag that offends then they need to get over it.

I am offended that fat people choose to wear itty bitty bathing suits. I see a fat person wearing that I dont conutine to stare at it to make me more sick I move away from it so that I will not have to see it.

the problem is we have confused RIGHTS with WANTS!

They feel it is the RIGHT to not have to see that flag. When it really is the fact that
They dont WANT to have to see that flag.

I dont WANT to see fat people wearing little bathing suits. BUT that does not mean
I have the RIGHT to tell them to but their clothes on because that infringes on their rights also.

But you do have that right. I would tell a fat chick in a bikini to cover up.

At any rate, I understand what you're saying. I agree - they shouldn't be so easily offended & must realize that we have the right to a freedom of speech. That doesn't change that a large percentage of them DO get insulted & it becomes disrespectful to continue to fly the flag.

If an alcoholic finds my picture insulting & I continued to keep it - it would be disrespectful to him, but I have every right to keep my picture & care less about him.

I make my own decisions about what I believe is true, especially for anything a professor (whom all have agendas to varying degrees) tells me.

The rainbow used to belong to the church? I don't recall that. Either way, now most people associate it with gays - regardless of your opinion. That means you have the right to paint a big rainbow on your truck, but I have the right to think you're a fag.

Whether people fighting in the war owned slaves or not is irrelevent (only whether they supported the institution is) & your OPINION is that .01 % cared about it. I'd say that is a far, far cry from being a fact, & would have to disagree with you.

Just like the people have every right to fly the flag and careless about the feelings of the black community.
