i dont understand. burning a flag is just a statement like anything else. dont we all get upset with amerca sometimes? it isnt holy or magic, it is just a flag. flag burning is just a form of protest. i wouldnt care if you burned a thousand flags a day. i would happily heat my house exclusively with burning flags.

furthermore, i can see how some people might mean it as a tribute. the fact that you are allowed to burn it is sweet.

By the Laws of this country you do have the right to burn the flag.

The reason I got upset alnog with my fellow borthers-n-arms here is because it is being put into the same sentence and in the same breathe as this confederate flag bull****.

That statement I made was simple my opinion, if you burn the flag then I feel that you are denouncing this country therefore you denounce all the freedoms and rights that come with it.

And I never said that you 2 agreed with flag burning, again I was upset about the fact that it was being compared to this other bull****.

These protest are part of an agenda of some old rich black polotican looking to stir up the pot. This flag has been flown for a few years, I know because we have had ours since the 2000 season, why is it all of a sudden that there are these protest.
Because they want to strike while the iron is hot, after all the racism crads that were played during the hurricane this is the perfect time for them to get things done on their agenda.

I would be willing to go up to them this saturday and ask them a question, Which is more important to you getting rid of this flag or getting rid of burning the american flag? Both of which are a right of the people.
What do you honestly think the answer would be?

If I thought that this was something that was gonna bother them and that they were ready to protest for years and years to come. Then out of respect for them I would remove it. BUT I know this is just an angeda being met and as soon as there is another big event they will be off to protest something bigger and better.

The protest are a joke, they fact that all of a sudden they are pissed about this flag when I have had one flying for 5 years is a joke. And it will remain a joke until like I said they find something bigger and more important to do. This is only here for lack of something better.

This is the last thing I am gonna say about this subject.

The reason I have and fly a LSu battle flag is the same reason I have and fly an Old Glory LSU flag.

It shows PRIDE in OUR Country, PRIDE in OUR Heritage, and PRIDE in OUR school!

I am a proud memeber of the United States Army, A proud memeber of this Great Nation, A proud memeber of the South and BY GOD I BLEED PURPLE AND GOLD!

Interesting thread, there are a lot of parallel arguments going on about flag burning and issues are getting mixed. There are three separate questions:

    1. Is flag-burning a constitutionally protected freedom of expression? -- Yes. This is clear from the constitution and legal precedents.

    2. Is flag burning anti-patriotic? -- Yes. It is a direct insult to the country, it's government, and to the citizens who make it up. Most of them give a chit, and will take it personally.

    3. Is flag burning smart? -- Noooooo. Best do it in a locked room full of nothing but anarchists. Do it in public and CParso will challenge your motives. Red will make snide comments and cast veiled insults at you. SabanFan will make a witty derision about your parentage and ridicule the size of your tool. Tirk will jeer and mock you initially and finally will revile, slander, and vilify you. CRAWFISH will announce that you are gay.

Then Saltyone will kick your ass.

No offense taken Joe, but you misunderstood what I wrote originally about flag burning. I was talking about people having the right to fly whatever flag they want, and I said that I WAS OPPOSED TO THE US BANNING AMERICAN FLAG BURNING when it was an issue. (When it was an issue refers to the early 90's when it was a huge deal, all over national media, and certain members of Congress were trying to ban flag burning.) All the sudden a couple of guys were jumping so far up my butt that I couldn't get rid of my dinner. In other words, they were giving me crap for opposing a ban, thereby implying that they supported a ban.

I never said I support flag burning and in fact have made it clear that I don't. But while I think the act of burning the flag is a deplorable act, I think the fact that we as citizens have that right is what makes the US so great.

I simply cannot agree that giving people the right to burn the American flag - a flag that thousands have given their lives for to defend and protect the freedom this country provides for us - makes this country great. I echo Red's sentiments. Flag-burners are traitors in my book.

you guys are all insane. it isnt the flag, but what the flag stands for that matters. the flag itself is no big deal. you cant burn freedom and liberty, you can only burn some worthless cloth. you guys remind me of the muslims that got mad when the koran got in the toilet.

burning the flag is a perfectly reasonable protest, and as such it can be viewed as a tribute to america. i would happily burn a million flags.

Yep. This thread went from obvious to ludicrous as it switched from overly sensitive insecure blacks to overly sensitive and crazy military guys. :hihi:

Well there are those of us who view the flag as much more than just "some worthless cloth". It is a symbol of this country and everything it stands for. Burning it in protest, in my opinion, proves that a person puts no value on what it stands for.
