Yeah, well, I'll show my greatest nationalistic strength by beating the crap out of anyone I see try it.

    "and it's ok" :sob:

What the hell kind of attitude is that? Are you saying that you would not attempt to stop someone from burning the American Flag if they were doing it right in front of you?

this thread is entertaining, heated, opinionated, irrational, and exactly what is to be expected about this topic.....all over the place.

to begin my rant, yes everyone, I am a caucasion. white is ok by me as well.

I have no feelings here or there about the confederate flag, the confederate battle flag (yes, they are two different things), or my family's history in terms of being from south Louisiana and having past family members who lived on/operated plantations. I am very proud of my family and my heritage as a southerner...as all people should be no matter where they grew up/come from.

So, to make this short and sweet I see both sides of the issue, but have some issues of my own. Blacks are offended by the confederate battle flag, IMO not really so much because of it's ties to the Civil War and supposed slavery (the war was fought mostly over states rights and TAXES), but the fact that white supremecist groups and the KKK adopted the symbol to convey their hatred. It is funny to me that you never hear people complaining about the actual Confedarate flag, but that speaks to people's understanding of that period of US history.

So, now that the confederate battle flag has been transformed into a pruple and gold LSU version we have protest on campus about it needing to be banned. Understandable as everyone has their opinions, but if you allow this to happen you are opening the door to other things to be banned or taken away. For instance, I have 2 young children, and I am greatly offended and disturbed when taking them to games either at LSU or on the road and having to listen to profanity laced music, mostly rap music, talking about bitches, whores, f this, f that, shoot this cop, shoot this crackhead, shoot this cracker, shoot this nigga..........i want this banned as well since I am offended by it..........it offends me. does my 5 year old need to hear this at an LSU game...NO. My 1 year old? NO. My wife? NO.

But, if we take these things away, the white people will bitch about the flag, the blacks will bitch about losing the rap. then where are we???????? all pissed at each other again likeit always is saying we are racist.

let people have their opinions. let people fly there flags.....let people play their obscene music. if you don't like it, DON'T LOOK AND DON'T LISTEN. There are bigger things in this world going on then a purple and gold flag and obscene music. Time to grow up America!

No I wouldn't. Why stop an act that affirms how great and how free we are?

My main problem with banning flag burning is it sets up a very slippery slope. If we ban flag burning, then logically burning copies of the constitution should also be banned. Then how far removed are we from banning people from saying I hate Congress or the Governor is dumb?

Whatever, just don't stand between me and one of them or I'll plow your ass over.

Edit: Our governor is dumb. What about it?

I suppose I'm one of the two "arrogent" ones, so I'll respond even though I simply asked a question.

Burning the flag is an expression of speech & by our first amendment, should be protected. Personally, I feel the same as you two - I'd kick someone's a$$ just for wanting to do such a thing, but that has nothing to do with their right to do it. Burning the flag makes them many things (punk b*#hes is the phrase that comes to mind first), but just because we're insulted by something doesn't mean it should be banned - remember?

No one said that flag burning should be banned. People said that they disagree with it and would beat the $h!t out of anyone that they caught doing it.

If you burn what so many have fought and died to defend, that is your legal right, but be very prepared for an asswhooping or some other form of persecution.

The following might get confusing:(Also, it is only my opinion.)

See, the thing about it is that the very people that would burn the flag are the very people who may not deserve the protection and freedom that it gives them. The fact that flag burning is legal is proof of that. If someone were to destroy the symbol of the freedom that gives them the freedom to destroy it in the first place, it is reasonable to assume that they do not value that freedom and would not fight to protect it, therefore the freedom never existed in the first place for those who oppose it.

Burning the flag is a symbol in and of itself. It represents an ideology opposed to what the flag represents. Therefore, one cannot use the freedom that the symbol represents to desecrate and oppose what the symbol represents. As soon as one rejects the symbol of freedom, the freedom itself is destroyed by the very freedom exercised to destroy it.

The point is that Flag Burning is Legal. Those who burn it are opposed to it in the first place and therefore do not represent it. Therefore, I can conclude that flag burners are anti-american. (or just stupid idiots)

Burn one in front of me, and be prepared to get bloody.

Back to the topic of the thread:

LSU fans cannot be made to do anything un-constitutional. If you don't like it, protest it or express your disparagement.

Thats it. End of story. Convince these people in an intellectual debate why you feel they shouldn't fly their flag. If they agree with you, they will take it down. You can not MAKE them do anything unless you want a dictatorship.
