Why do you defend the right to wave a rebel flag as your freedom of speech, but not want to for the freedom of speech to burn the american flag?

Let me get this straight. Flag burning offends you and therefore should be banned and not seen as a freedom of speech or expression, but flying the Confederate flag that offends our black neighbors should be okay because it's a freedom of speech?

You couldn't possibly be any more hypocritical if you tried.

What was that you said a few posts ago?

    I rest my case.

Oh Salty, you hurt my feelings. Sniff Sniff.

Perhaps you should distinguish between the right to burn the flag, and the act of burning the flag itself.

I think it's a dispicable act, but it's protected under the Constitution. And if you want your right to fly an offensive flag protected, then you're a hypocrite to argue that flag burning should be banned.

I'm cool with you being a hypocrite. As long as we both know it.

Call me a hypocrite if you like. If I'm around and someone tries to burn THE flag, I'll beat crap out of them, or die trying. You're on a whole different playing field when you are discussing our nation's standard. :usaflagwa Your statement makes it obvious that you don't think any higher of it than any other flag. To you, it's just a constitutionally unprotected piece of cloth. Judging by your attitude on here, I bet there is little in life you would be willing to fight for anyway.

To the 2 morons that think that burning the American flag is an expression of free speech, pack you bags and get the **** out of this great country of ours.

Go join the other Muslim *******s that thought it was funny to burn our flag on 9/11.

The reason Burning the Flag is NOT a expression of free speech is because it is that flag that gives you the right to free speech. And when you choose to BURN that you LOSE your rights as an American. Burning that flag is a symbol that you dont give a **** about the freedoms that you have. And if you two were not a couple of arrogent assclowns you might would understand that.

You burn the flag or even talk about burning the flag in front of me As God as my witness you will eat and breathe out of a tub for the rest of your life.

My uncle did not give his life on the shores of Normandy and my friends did not give their lives in the deserts of the Middle East to have people BURN the VERY FABRIC OF PROTECTION that they live under.

What all confererate flag bashers need to realize is.......the civil war was not originally about slavery at all. It only became an issue later in the war. The Civil War started over the issue of states rights as any knowledgeable historian knows.

yes you are right the war was about states rights. The right to choose slavery or not. It was wrong! Has we not had the civil war, we would not be the country we are today. We would be know better than the third world **** heads we are fighting in Iraq and Afganistan today. Look how they treat other people who are different than them or even women. Yes the Confederate flag mean pride to me because men from my part of the country fought and died for it. It is part of the heritage that is the South. A place where people respect their neighbors and welcome visitors. A place where life is approached with joy and optimisim; where every day is a blessing and family and friends get together for fellowship, feast and drinks! However, to alot of people of african roots, it is a reminder of a time when their ancestors were treated without regard to human dignity. Some were beaten, seperated from their families(do you have children? can you imagine someone taking your wife and kids and selling them?) and forced to work for hours for no pay. No home for ownership of their own. Nothing, no life!
We cant change this idea they have of the flag. So because we are Americans, we should understand and not display something that is so offensive.
Besides, those same people some think are shallow because they dont like our confederate flag are the some of the same folks who give their bodies for us to make Saturday Night In Death Valley the Fire, fellowship and most looked forward to time of our lives possible!
So lighten up on the issue. Go buy the LSU flag that looks like a US flag! Wave it proudly because it not only displays our LSU colors and heritage, but it represents the men and women that made this wonderful country that we live in today that allows us to enjoy "SATURDAY NIGHTS IN TIGER STADIUM"!

Among the first laws passed by the Communist regime in China was to ban the burning of natinal flags. What good is the first amendment if it only protects things we like?

It has nothing to do with things we "like". The flag is who we are.

Exactly right. The flag represents a democracy so great that we can disgrace the very symbol of our freedom, and its ok. The freedom to burn the flag does not show a weakness of our nation. It shows one of its greatest strengths.
