Why doesn't Miles get credit as a great coach with the national media?

Like lsutiga said...talent is only half of the equation. You have to be able to use that talent. Anyone that thinks you can just throw a group of stars players out on the field and think they’ll win on talent alone doesn't now football at all. Look at Texas. They have had arguably the best recruiting classes for the last 5-6 years and managed one MNC. The key to success in college football is the ability to recruit quality athletes and then manage them as an effective unit on gameday. So far Miles as shown he can do the second part and as far as I can tell he's looking pretty good on the recruiting front. He has the second ranked recruiting class by Rival’s right now with a number of big names still on the board with LSU interest.

I agree 100% and will add to it saying that the "#1 or #2 class" is still not the litmus test for recruiting ability cause the ratings are based on what they've done in HS-actually they get a * assignment the summer before their High School senior year anyway- and is a good predictor of talent but what a college coach does with the talent, as far as devloping them and recognizing where they need to be to best help the team is another facet. USC, for example, had the #1 class in the past three years and LSU would beat them
if our offense had a decent day.

There are a lot of 2, 3, and 4 * players who turn out to be All-Americans:

JaMarcus Russell, Matt Flynn, LaRon Landry, Will Arnold, Alley Broussard, and Dwayne Bowe were 4* players; Jonaton Zenon and Jessie Daniels were 3*'s.

    Justin Vincent was a 5*.

He will get more respect when he gets a better hat. That big white hat makes him look like a big dummy.

Can't disagree with you there (Except I might would substitute "Comical" for "Dummy") but him keeping it says a lot about his intestinal fortitude too- he did it his way- and kept it even after EVERYONE had heard what was being said. :thumb:

If my life was reduced to bitching about Miles on a football forum at 10:00 Christmas Eve night, I'd probably have to kill myself.

LMAO  When "the rest of the country" can put together a conference with a better stable of coaches than the SEC, then the "rest of the country" can lecture SEC fans on what good coaching means.

until then, remember that there's a reason that good talent stays home in the South ...... the South's coaches consistently develop their available talent for the next level.

Having an oversized head myself I feel Les's hat-fitting pain.

Go on Les, do your thing man.
