He was an outsider but not a populist. As you said he ran to the center. H Ross Perot was the populist in 1992. Billy was fortunate to be where he was. GHW Bush was Perot's target and taking him down was his goal. Bill won with only 43% of the vote. He was a pragmatic, brilliant politician who was anything but a populist.
Red what's your definition of the establishment? Are only Republicans eligible? I guess your view of this is as jaundiced as everything else political. BTW I think he was one of the better presidents of the 20th century.
