We're going to have to agree to disagree. If McCray is playing in nickel and dime packages that tells me he's a DB. I don't know that you can hide him from one on one coverage. If opposing O coordinators think he's our weak link you can bet they are going to adjust their game plan accordingly.
I agree with you about all the people who are throwing Hatch under the bus (on other LSU sites, I see all these brand-new threads about how Hatch isn't a Div-1 QB, Hatch sucks, etc). I could care less who our QB is, but if the coaches decide to keep playing Hatch as much as they have been doing, I don't want to see people freaking out and doubting our coaching staff. As for our secondary and it's flaws... I'm not sold on the idea that Auburn's passing offense is weak, that Franklin isn't a good offensive coordinator (those little runs plays he had for Todd were genius), and that Todd sucks at QB (he was ranked the #20 QB in the nation by rivals when he came out of high school and beat out Kodi Burns, who was ranked the #5 QB in the nation by scout).
He was 11/22 (50%), 182 yds, 2 TDs, 1 INT. Not too shabby for a redshirt freshman in his first SEC game, a game against a major rival, one of the best defenses in the nation at their house, with their fans bringing the noise big-time.
What it should tell us is that he is a good football player and even though he is a bit out of position, they trust him to get the job done. This is a perfect example of trying to get the best players on the field. We do not have anyone else to play his role that is on his level. I 100% agree it is not the best situation, and that opposing coordinators will try to exploit his shortcomings. However, this is not really McCray's concern, all he can do is play the scheme he is told to play, it is the defensive coaches job to change it up so that we have the upper hand.
and don't forget he brought the team from behind TWICE. Pretty impressive IMO, for a first game away from TS.
