One man doesn't win a game. It took quite a few actually. I know another guy who did something special last night also... Charles Scott - 132 yds rushing. I was very impressed with him. I was also impressed with our OLine. They were amazing last night. Its not all sour grapes and rotten eggs, i just don't see why everyone is crowning Lee the starter. He did make throws that I don't think Hatch could make, but at the same time. Hatch played well considering the first half pressure he was enduring from a fresh and rested Auburn D. Their secondary was playing amazing in the first half... go back and watch. See if you can pick out the open receivers. Since I criticized Lee, much to the chagrin of most of you. I'll also criticize Hatch. He needs to learn to trust his decisions and just release the ball. He seems to second and third guess himself in the pocket and things close down to fast and its scramble for 4 or 5 yards.
You have to sit around the campfire, sing Koom Ba Ya (or however you spell it), drink the Kool Aid, and view the world through your Purple & Gold glasses.
Wrong on 2 levels. First, had you seen the play from the reverse angle that they showed, you would've seen that the pass was EXACTLY where it should've been thrown (low and outside of the defender). Besides, the DB WAS out of position, so that's a moot point. If he's not, who's to say Lee doesn't look for another receiver or just throw the ball away? Second, he didn't call the play, so it's not like he threw the ball where he shouldn't have. The coaching staff obviously had confidence that he could make the throw. Again, no one is saying Lee is the Heisman front runner. Most of us are just impressed that he was able to rebound from a boneheaded throw and lead us to victory on the road against our toughest rival in the West. Did he miss some open throws in the second half? Yep. Does he have ALOT of room for improvement? Sure. But maybe, just maybe, this win will be the catalyst he needed for the proverbial light bulb to go off and give him the confidence he needs to successfully run this offense. Why can't you just be happy with that?
leg humping for Jarrett Lee? that's what the media does for USC (and lately, knowshon moreno - - - oh yeah, and (sigh admiringly) Tim (sigh longingly) Tebow ). we're just happy and praising a great 2nd half performance by our surprising (even though Les tried to tell us so) comeback quarterback. now...where are my purple and gold glasses? i'll take a glass of that kool aid? damn. i can't remember the lyrics to kum ba ya.......but the campfire sure is warm!
Lee showed he has the ability to make throws and exploit single coverage. I am far from convinced he's ready to manage a game and pick a defense apart, but hopefully he won't have to. Hatch hasn't shown much of anything throwing the football. We need to be able to loosen defenses up to make things easier on the running game. I don't think anybody is expecting Lee to blossom into a star this year, but he may be just what the offense needs - a QB capable of making teams pay for selling out against the run. Crowton deserves credit for adjusting things to suit Lee; challenging him physically but not mentally. Give him one target to shoot at. His arm is ready even if his mind isn't. PS - I agree that pass to LaFell was nuts, but Lee didn't call the play.
11/17, 182 yds, 2 TDs against a top 5 defense. Oh, and a come from behind win. What more did you want him to do in the 2nd half? So his 1 career pass attempt (incompletion) was that impressive to you?
The McCray criticism is being aimed in the worng direction. He is a solid player on this team. The problem is that there is a problem in our defensive scheme that in certain situations puts him in one on one coverage with a receiver. He has never been either a true safety, and he is maybe a hair small to be a linebacker. The problem is because the rest of the secondary is so inexperienced, this is probably the best option. He gets called out for the one or two times a game that this happenes and he gets exposed, but gets no credit for filling gaps, and helping to stop the run, which is really his specialty.
Watch the replay. The pass was low and Lafell went and got it. No way that pass goes for a pick 6. Are you serious? Lee was wearing a defender like an overcoat and the pass hit CM in stride.
I agree with the call to LaFell. It was one of those that Auburn normally takes to the house. We were just fortunate that it worked out for us. But Lee did not call the play and we got a TD out of it. And I don't know if Lee intentionally threw the ball low or not, but it was a good place to put it because it would have been harder to intercept. It was actually a better play by Lafell to catch it and take it to the house. As for the bomb to Mitchell, that was a GREAT play. Lee was a blink away from getting nailed and had to throw it a long way. It arrived right where it needed to be and Mitchell made a nice catch. Lee managed to do something that JR and other QBs could not do and that's come away with a W at Auburn. Not only that, he threw a couple of TDs and I think we had scored a total of 1 TD in our last two visits there. And listening to the Auburn fans, they think this is possibly their best D ever. As for McCray, I don't really blame him for all of those because I did feel that we didn't pressure the QB for much of the game. We blitzed in the very beginning and sent some extra pressure toward the end. And when we did, that QB didn't do anything. We should have done it in a few more situations. Otherwise, he was getting lots of time and just lobbing the ball up (rainbow lobs too). It's hard to stick with receivers for that long.
Well, I really think that him getting hit made the pass catchable. I truly don't think he completes that pass if he is allowed to sit back and throw. However, that was the flip of the switch apparently, most of his throws after that were pretty good and had some heat behind em.
