I love my Cowboys and all but there is no way I am getting out to Texas Stadium at 6am. Pro ball just doesn't deliver the passion for me like college ball does.
LSU's unchallenged superiority in tailgating was never more evident than at the VT game last year. The Richmond (VA) Tiger alumni BY THEMSELVES blew away VT. What a scene! Ragoo was there with the magic funnel. The air was filled with the aroma of grilled boudin, fried turkeys, jambalaya. The noise was incredible. In the midst of it all was a female reporter from Roanoke's Channel 7 and her cameraman. It was hilarious. She had on the plastic TV smile but her eyes clearly said "Get me the hell out of here! These people are crazy!" Over in the VT "tailgating" section, people were sitting peacefully in lawn chairs, eating ham sandwiches and deviled eggs. Boxes of KFC and Dominos were here and there. Iced tea (unsweetened) was being sipped. A few radios were carrying the NASCAR race. Church picnic atmosphere. I think a couple of their rowdier fans were passing an O'Doull's around. As the late Jed Clampett said, "Pitiful."
LSU has received a lot of props on tidefans also for their tailgating expertise. LSU fans have taken tailgating to a higher artform than others. Great fans, great atmosphere and really great food sets them apart from others. I have been around some other really good fans but usually find the food lacking.
Makin the Rounds I say the LSU Krewe of Ragoo are the best. I had never met them before but they fed me and my friends at the LSU Tennesee SEC championship game in Atlanta. They also fed us first rate Gumbo at one of the home games.
Re: Makin the Rounds I have heard they are pretty good at what they do. I got involved last season with a new start up tailgating group. Hopefully it will take off and become strong.
