I hate to toss Randall under the bus because he had a rough situation - but with the redshirted talent I don't think he's the right guy for the job. My guess is that Russell will get the nod. Lets just all be thankful that the Rick Claussen experiment was such a short lived one. What a disaster he was.
Just remember another quarterback who labored through three mediocre years and then gave us a 3,000-yard, SEC championship senior year -- Rohan Davey! Let's just see how the spring practice plays out. Can we get tickets to the spring game yet? It's going to be HUGE!
I agree with LSUGgradin99. The job is Randall's to lose. He's paid his dues he gets the shot. Unless he goes in the tank completly or somthing Saban will not toss him to the curb. The two "phenoms" as they've been called have "never thrown a pass in college. Randall has at least done that. Could be wrong I say its Randall's to lose as it should be.
How about this Lester Ricard cat at QB, he was a 4 star signee in 2002 with a position rank of 5 under dual threat QBs by Rivals. It also says he's 6'4, 195, with 4.6 speed in the forty coming out of high school. Anyone know the scoop on this guy?
We’re certainly not going to decide it here. It is good to read the varying opinions. There is no doubt that each of them will have an equal shot. Tommy Hodson made good his red shirt freshman season. All three have faced the best defense in the nation all season long. It’s not game experience but it must be as close as it gets. I don’t believe that Randall deserves any more shot than a walk-on would have. Randall had every opportunity to improve game-by-game last season and the cotton bowl gave me no hope. As for him having a Rohan season, anything is possible in the game of FB. I’m convinced that Randall will not be the starter and the best he’ll do is back up roll. I believe that Matt Flynn will be the starter in the first game of the season. JR gets all the hype but mark it down, Flynn is good and he will show his talents. I believe that JR may take or respond to pressure better. Either way, I think we will be in great shape with either one.
I'm glad someone brought up Lester Ricard. He is very talented and will play very well at Tulane (a school which has fed QBs to the NFL recently). Why do you think Ricard left? I think it has alot to do with Russell and/or Flynn.
The interesting thing to consider is what team are we going to open the year with next year. I think it'll play a factor as to who gets the starting job early.
Its all about the PT, and for Ricard, he saw the writing on the wall. Had he stayed, he would have gotten a ring. For some of these kids, it is all about PT, and they don't want to wait. Tulane will be quite happy with Ricard, and he should be able to put up decent numbers against subpar CUSA defenses (USM exempted from that)
