Agreed. Gotta go with Mestepay. He looked calm and collect the entire game today. Great outting!

Also, in the CWS, staying the winners bracket is so important. I know it's not entirely the same as it used to be in the past where the team that came out of the losers bracket had to win twice, but you still want to remain undefeated and save your starters from having to pitch additional games.

Yeah, and the errors really didn't aide his cause either. I mean, sure, giving up a 5 spot on the scoreboard in the first inning is rough--but only ONE of those runs was earned!!

That said, I would still start Mestepey. I have a feeling Nate's next outting will be either one of two extremes--either he'll pitch that game of his life because he's angry at his last outting, or he'll be rattled because he'll try to hard to make up for his last outting.

I say throw him in game 2...let him observe the first game and collect himself.

It would be really sweet if we could beat Miami again.
I don't think the Canes could beat us in any sport if we pull this off.

Why isn't Determann in the mix? If Miami bats lefty, I myself would think about him. Determann just a reliever that pitches 7 innings?

yeah it was nerves....Nate was so lathered up he looked like Smarty Jones after a 2 mile sprint. He was sweating so bad he prolly couldnt grip the rosin bag even though he went to it every freaking pitch. He was so worked up he couldnt locate anything. His stuff is nasty at times and his changeup is awesome. Not sure when to start him but we need him to calm down in Omaha.

Nate didn't really pitch bad at all. LSU had a chance to turn two double plays in the 1st inning to get out of it, but failed. Anyway, I still think Lane or Justin should go first.

Btw, Justin has pitched great recently. He was awesome in the SEC tournament, and pitched a complete game shutout last weekend.

also, i saw poll after. Id go with Meier....he has better stuff than Lane and I know about the left left matchup with Lane but I still like Meier better. I like Lane 2nd if we happen to be facing elimination though I think we win with either.

Lane will start though....Smoke is a baseball purist with hitter/pitcher matchups.

Nate was just alittle wild early on. If he and Gil hadn't made mistake during that inning, Bumstead would have likely pitched 7+ innings of good baseball, and the Tigers would have won in a cakewalk.

But, the way the game played out showed the resilience of the Tigers. It was a gut-check and a leanring experience. Also, Determan hadn't pitched in a few weeks, so it was great for him to get a long outing and stay sharp and ready for Omaha. It worked out fro the best.

Now, to answer the question, I say you go with the veteran stopper Mestepay. Big Game Lane is back just in time. I think we should have Meier ready along with Determan in any case, because all of them have proven they can pitch big time when needed.

Maybe he was sweating because it was very hot and humid.

Agreed. I just think it was really nasty out there. He would have settled down nicely if not for the fielding errors.
