It'll depend on JR. If he's deadset on leaving, then it doesn't matter if they go outside to hire an OC. If he's on the fence, then hiring from within and keeping the offense the same will be important.
In thinking about it more, Im now in agreement to promote Monken. Its usually better to promote within because that gives incentive to the position coaches, plus it keep comradarrie. Also, promoting Monken would keep the same offensive system in play. Crowton would be a great pick up, but I dont think we need that right now. The structure and familiarity of promoting Monken would do much more than a named OC. Had Monken not established himself so much, then Id say go and pick up a named OC.
what do any of us know about all this? but, since you asked, id like to see lsu get a guy to develop qbs--especially since clm is an ol guy. i have no idea how good of a coach he is, but how bout steve sarkisian?
That was pretty much the thinking when it was decided to name Archer head coach over such outsiders as Spurrier. Not a great decision. The primary criteria should be who will make the best OC. Who has the best credentials. Incentives to other coaches and team camradarrie should not weigh heavily in the decision. Also, what offensive system LSU uses will be determined by Miles - not by the next OC.
It's no secret that JR was slow to learn this offense. No way in hell they change it if he comes back. That was one reason why Miles kept Fisher on staff. But it's probably a moot point ... JR will be playing on Sundays next year.
Let's see, who handpicked Archer? Oh yeah, Arnsparger, right before he left to become UF's AD. Then all of a sudden he liked Spurrier! Dumbest thing I can remember LSU ever doing!:angryfire
