What's interesting, and hasn't been discussed here very much, is that Washington plays USCw just 2 weeks after LSU. Although each of the 3 teams will improve drastically in that time period I wonder if we'll be able to make some legitimate comparisons.
Well, the only thing most casual LSU fans know about UW football recently is the 0-12 record last year. I don't think the LSU team or coaches are going to take UW too lightly, however. But when you say that the Pac-10 is "just as tough as any conference" - what metrics are you using? It seems that USC wins the Pac-10 every year lately - look at the SEC champions over the the recent past - LSU, Florida, Georgia, and Auburn have all won it within the last 5-7 years, and 8 of 12 of the SEC teams have appeared at least once in the SEC championship game since its inception in 1992. Now, if you take USC out of the equation, then maybe the Pac-10 (or Pac-9? ) is pretty competitive... but w[ith USC, you are getting what the SEC had for awhile with Florida in the 1990s, when they were in the 7 of the first 9 SEC championship games, and won 5 of them. I don't think USC can maintain their dominance in the Pac-10 forever, and if you are lucky the NCAA will help the rest of the teams out by penalizing them because of the Reggie Bush shenanigans.
Can never count out anyone... App St over Michigan, Stanford over USC etc etc. But I obviously like our chances here and we should win in a blowout.
I've been following some UW web sites for awhile now. Here's what I gather from their own experts. Locker is great with his feet, but has not been an accurate passer. He claims improvement in this area. But I sense healthy skepticism about this. The UW offensive line is suspect. That won't be good for them, especially against LSU. The UW defensive front 7 is supposed to be respectable, but the DBs are still in disarray after a horrible season last year. And there are complaints about a lack of speed with the corners.... I think UW has a good coaching staff. I think the team will be up for the game and start out strong. But LSU's depth of talent, across the board, will be evident by the end of the 1st qtr and UW will get it's butt kicked hard. JJ, Lee and Shep will all get snaps. Lafell and either Scott or Williams will have 100 yard games. And Shep will break a long one. And if LSU's defense shows up like I think it will, it's going to be a tough day for UW. Not a 40 point rout, I don't think. But an easy win. And a stat builder for the skill players.
Miles said he's not worried about it - they're pretty much already set up, it's only two hours, and going west is easier than going east. I travel a lot and I can confirm that going west is MUCH easier than going east. But two hours in either direction is very easy to adjust to.
