Sorry, I thought we were talking about SPORTS. Not SPORT.(note: no "s") My Bad. PS If you don't want to argue with us "idiots" then don't reply to our clearly "idiotic" posts. It's really THAT SIMPLE.(like us) Hell, you know what's right in your world and everybody else's, right??? :hihi:
Then with that I would vote LSU GOLFER, oh wait?!? He didn't play golf for LSU, well then I vote for another LSU GOLFER named David Toms!
Back to thread topic. My vote for best all-time athlete from LSU would be Jack "Baby Jack" Torrance. In 1933, leading the Tigers along with hurdler Slats Hardin, he set a new world record in the shot put at 52'10" at the NCAA championship meet at Soldier Field in Chicago. LSU upset the heavily favored USC Trojans to win the track and field crown, the FIRST NC in LSU history. Later in 1933, he was a first team SEC tackle, the Tigers only all-SEC player on Biff Jones' 7-0-3 Tiger squad. He was also the team captain, the placekicker and the punter. In 1936, at the Berlin Olympics, he finished fifth in the shot put competition. From 1939-40, he played for the Chicago Bears. In 1961, he was inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall Of Fame. Yes, there is a personal angle here. Mr. Torrance worked with my dad at the Copolymer plant in BR for many years. I went to school with his son Jerry at Redemptorist. I still think that because of his great accomplishments in two sports, "Baby Jack" qualifies as the greatest Tiger athlete ever.
There are just too many great atheletes to mention, I would be afraid I would leave one out, and my favorites might not would be someone elses.
Good post. I agree than an athelete is someone who is good at what they do. My daughter was a cheerleader in high school, she worked very hard at what she did, she did not just look pretty on a Friday night, they trained to be together at their cheers, their stunts, and all that they did on Friday nights for the football team and the fans. One year the football team was bragging on how good they were and just running their mouths while the cheerleaders were out on the field training, so they challenged the cheerleaders to a race around the track, however it was not just once around it, they were supposed to run until they couldn't run no more. When it was all over, there were still 10 cheerleaders running and all the football players were out, because they ran as fast and as hard as they could. The cheerleaders just took their time running and saved their energy and they beat the boys, so at that time the cheerleaders were the better atheletes.
